Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Got my fancy "show polish" do dads for my oil and temp gauges. Installed my world famouse alt and tryed to install my power steering pump but could not get the pully to go to it home. So i will have to talk to my favorite snap on tool man or see if there is a bolt i can use a nut on to run the pully down with.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

They will deff be confused when they look under hood. Not sure why they would be under there right now any way.....Not sure if i will be attending any shows with it. I had a bad experiance with my cars in car shows one time. Thought my "FRIENDS" in my bug group were good people then i went out side one morning to install a new part for it and my poor 67 was no where to be found. I put year and half into that little bug and all it took was telling my "friends" the area i lived to end all that hard work. That is why i not sure if i will ever paint this truck............................Ok sorry sad story is over now......

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

sorry to hear that. I'm fairly cautious about giving anyone too much info online or at car/truck get togethers/shows...but then again I keep my truck in a locked garage too.

I plan on entering in Goodguys when they come to town in the spring and again in the fall. Not to show the truck (well maybe as a homebuilt work in progress)....but to compete in their autocross to see how my truck measures up against those high dollar custom chassis trucks!

I went to the last goodguys up there by you. Was great. Lots of ls swaped trucks. The pic of wifes truck on the previous page is when she won young guns in colorado 6-8 years ago. Maybe i will be able to drive my swaped burb up there next time.

You have autozone down there? They rent out GM power steering pump installers for free.

Yes i even went there to check there tool with my pump it did not screw in the shaft. It may be the junk in the threads tho i will take it to work and try to clean it out with my thread chase set. Then i may be able to screw something in to it.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Does any one know if you have two return lines on back of the pump is it a hydro boost type pump? My tool guy says it is for hydroboost and it puts out too much psi for my gear box. Also i cant get the threads cleaned out so nothing will go in the dang pump. So that adds one more thing to my list i had all crossed off. Dang it...

The two return line problem or the pully install problem?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I just bought a 04 LQ-4 with 4L60E tranny. My problem is what do I do with all the wiring and computer. My 72 SWB has no wiring, due to complete off frame restore, and I am dumb as post when it comes to wiring. Painless has wiring harness for this pickup but doesn't address this engine and tranny. Any help will be well received.

Well i would love to help but......Mine is going to have a big fat carb sitting on top of it and i am using a msd box to fire the coils so i dont know any thing about the wires. That is why i chose carbed. Like 10 wires to hook up. The guy that would know is the guy that built "fred" think his name is glock35ipsc also menace121978 they would be the first two i can think of they both did simalar swaps and top notch quality work.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Well i got to play a little today. All i need to do is take factory pump off and wire pump in. Is it ok if i take the fuel pump push rod compleatly out? I will be installing cover plate on pump hole.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Got rest of fuel system installed today. Ran wires and removed old pump and rod. Have pump set at between 3.5 and 5 psi. It kind of moves around depending on what rpm motor is at due to crappy alt. At ldle it only has like 12.8 v but at anything over idle it has 13.8 or so. You can deff tell the pump is on. It is a little loud but i will try to install some more rubber so it has no contact with anything and maybe it will quiet down. Runs great still. Punched it to almost 70 mph and did not run out of fuel so i guesss it is going to work out.

That is my goal. I just want to wire in alt and msd box and drop motor in. I have to drive it everyday now. Only will have the week end to do hole swap. Will most likaly be doing it in bros drive way. All i need is new pump and get v bands welded on to headers.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I'd leave yourself a little room for a plan B...just in case. PS pump isn't what I really wanted since its for hydroboost (might modify it?), my flexplate should have fit my torque converter...but didn't and I had to drill it, there might be linkage issues, etc.

at least you don't have to worry about efi issues!

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

The only thing i am worried about is the headers. The mounts i am using are with in 1/8th of inch from factory sbc. The flexplate is already redrilled and not that big of a deal. My bro is very smart when it comes to wiring. I hope i can figure out how to hook up the msd box....it has like 3 wires. I am sure something will come up but it will have to be small cause my carb already kind of works and my fuel system is in and functioning proberly. The only trouble will be if i forget to adjust valves and put oil in dang thing. We have a 7 day a week junk yard if i need maniflods or anything. I plan for january sometime. My bro is pushing me to get it in cause he is going to build a motor and is posibly thinking of ls swap. He in not convinced they make any kind of power at all. I HOPE to show him they do. As you can see by my excessivly long post i a very nervious about this hole thing working right. If it does not i not sure what i am going to do.....Prob start drinking a lot..... My plan B is to put junk sbc back in and cry alot........

Does yours breath fire yet?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Is there any way to make an electic pump run consistant rpm. At idle it sounds like it is too slow but if i rev engine pump also speeds up. Heck thing even works with my blinker speeding up and down with every blink. Also is making setting fuel psi hard. If pump is slow psi is down but if i rev engine psi goes up. Like a resister or conpaseter or something.

Sounds like you need a better power feed wire (using 10ga?) or a better ground to the frame, with no paint under the contact?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

My truck only puts out 12 something at ldle then if you tap the gas at all it goes up to 14 or so. So it is getting constant batt voltage. The wire i am using is not 10 but it is prety thick. maybe 12-16 or so. I have seen the relay kits the sell but not sure if the wires will go to the back where my pump is located. Maybe i will save up for that kit. Thanks.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Well went to almost every parts store in town today and finaly got my ps pump for a 01 chevy 1500 5.3 2wd. Was like 65 plus core and tool rental. Got installed in a bout 5 mins and slaped belt on. All i have left is header collector welding and install my temp fittings and stuff for oil change. What color coolant are yall going to be running?
