Transmission Opinion Question
My 72 GMC currently has a granny low 4-speed in it. Eventually I want to go back to an automatic (it was originally an auto from the factory) but I found a 3 speed manual close to me that is reasonably priced. I don't know the different gear ratios in the transmissions and I understand the granny low is basically like a 3 speed with the low gear.
My question is, would going to the 3 speed benefit me in any way such as speed or gas mileage or lowering my RPM's? Thanks.

Re: Transmission Opinion Question
No -- top gear is still 1:1.

Re: Transmission Opinion Question
IMHO keep the bulldog! Alot of guys on here love their 3 speeds on the column but in my limited experience i have had nothing but trouble outta them! plus you never know when you will need the grunt of Granny to pull something?

Re: Transmission Opinion Question
I thought about switching my 4 speed out but decided against it because im going to put a low rear end on it with bigger tires to drop my rpms down instead of getting a tranny with a OD. I love the granny gear its good for idleing along and taking off up steep hills.
Hope this helps
