New Tires $$$
I know these are not the most expensive tires I could have gotten, but I figured that I'll drive MAYBE 2,500 - 3,000 miles a year and ended up getting 70K rated tired 4 new with balance stems $430.90. Whats gets me ie the $2.00 per tire disposal. I brough in 4 empty rims and according to the shop thay have to charge the fee - right.
235 75R15 Goodyear's I probally change them out in 4-5 years due to age. Has to hunt around finding new lug nuts too.

Re: New Tires $$$
Wrong... You did not have old tires ; they should not have charged you the fee.

Re: New Tires $$$
The disposal fee depends. It may actually be a tax, it might be a $2 tax per new tire that the shop them give to the state government. The law may be written in a way that it's a $2 tax determined by the new tires, not how many are disposed of. If it doesn't make sense, someone is either ripping you off, or the government has their hands in it

Re: New Tires $$$
I've been told that the $2 disposal fee is charged at the time of purchase for the tires that you are purchasing...not the old ones. I think I was told it was a Federal Law, but might just be in Louisiana.

Re: New Tires $$$
YEp. $2.00 per tire is right, but they ought to call it a tax not a disposal fee. It's still a crock of crap. Just set up a system to surrend the old tires and let the asphault co. take them to chew up, no fees involved BUT>>>>> the state just has to take your money to support some deadhead.
Senator: Why it's only $2.00 measly dollars, I can't think any body would say no. Others Senators: hehehehehehehehhe

Re: New Tires $$$
find 4 old tires and drop them off there, you should at least get what you paid for...

Re: New Tires $$$
If they didn't charge you unless they disposed of the tires people would keep the old tires and then throw them in the ditch.....
Be they tires, mattresses or old furniture somebody needs a good a$$ whoppin here in Colorado! Last edited by lakeroadster; 12-30-2010 at 07:44 PM. |

Re: New Tires $$$
The least the shop should have done is credit you the $8.00 towards the valve stems!

Re: New Tires $$$
that's right, it is a fed tax on the NEW tire, according to my tire guy. but just try to turn in that SAME tire later without buying a new one, and explain you already PAID the tax on it when you bought it & see what happens. i bet i could hear them holler all the way here in mississippi. my son bought 4 new bfg a/t mail order & i don't remember him paying the tax on a separate line on the invoice, but that was a few years ago.

Re: New Tires $$$
Here if you have 20" tires the disposal fee is 20.00, 5.00 for 15" and I think 10 upto 20's. I guess they figure if you can afford to buy them you can afford to get rid of them.
