2002 gmc fuel pump issues

Hey Guys, ive got a 2002 gmc sierra and im having several issues with the fuel pump. Ive got 133,000 mile on it and i just replaced the fuel pump probably 15,000 miles ago. Now im having issues when i go to start it after its been sitting, i have to cycle the key several times to get it to start up right away. other wise it will just crank. i was told by a mechanic it was my pressure line check valve is failing and releasing the fuel pressure from the lines when it sitts for more than a hour. so by cycleing the switch it pressurizes and starts right up. And on top of that my fuel guage now when im sitting still to long with the truck running will drop to below empty and my fuel light comes on. if i move the truck it goes off and guage goes back to normal... Has anyone had this happen to them and what did you do to fix. dont really want to drop another $350.00 for a new pump. Any advise would help. Thanks....

Re: 2002 gmc fuel pump issues

where did you get the pump from? the only pump that will last in these trucks is the factory gm/ac delco pumps. the after market brands do not last very long

Actually were Delphi. I agree aftermarket pumps are junk.

Check your fuel pressure again and leave the gauge on there and see how fast it bleeds down.
