17" Crager soft 8's

Is anybody running 17x8" Crager soft 8's on a lowered square body? If so what size tires are u running? Thanks for any help.

cant quite tell if these are the soft 8s, look more like painted wagon wheels...
but may give an idea of what it would look like.

I would love to see that to..i was jus lokking @ some in tha summit catalog..65 a wheel for 17x9 is not a bad deal.

heres a pic of them on a 65 17x9 rear/17x8 front, tire sizes for the rear are 255.60/ and 235.55 up front.

I saw this thread the other day, but didn't have time to upload and post. But here the secondary view of a project that I started awhile back for my 87 and never finished. I had the idea to drill and tap to use a stock center cap, and also use a trim ring, which I just recently realized was made for 17s. Anyway, I think it'll look pretty cool, emulate a 17" rally, and be dirt cheap. My favorite kind of wheels are cheap ones.

Thanks man. I debated whether I should post that or not. But I don't care if somebody beats me to it. My gmc needs alot before I put new wheels on it.

Mine needs tons of work too, but also needs tires now.....

I might steal this idea, but will have to powercoat/paint the wheels silver and I have a set of 88+ centers I will use that are held on with the black plastic covers. Thanks for posting it, the rendering is awesome and its a great idea.

Where would you get 17" trim rings? Wheel vintiques?

good idea on the 88 caps... but- you have to use the late model lugs that have the ability for the the plastic lug caps to screw on.
Will they fit our square's lugs.
(i thought they were metric, not us 1/2 course threads)
just a thought... still changing the studs wouldn't be that huge of an undertaking...

there are companies out there that make the special lug nuts for our std thread trucks to accept the newer caps. i think i got mine from spinnercenter a few years ago.

I've thought about the newer center cap too, but I picked up some nos gmc center caps a while back that I'm determined to use.
I havent looked in months, but the 17" rings are available through summit (not in catalog). They are plastic though, which sucks--but they are cheap iirc. I feel like I found some stainless ones but were high dollar.
I realized that 17" trim rings existed by noticing them on some crown Vic cop cars. I've only seen a few that actually have them. I'd like to pull one of theirs off to see what they are made of. I had a chance at a gas station once, but couldn't work up the nerve.

hmm thanks for that info, i wondered about the 17" rings too. btw- how come u couldnt just ask the cop to see the chrome rings on his car closer if you were at the gas station?

He just didn't seem like a cop that I wanted to approach. He was a young short Tx state trooper that looked pissed. Maybe I was judging a book by it's cover by my instincts told me to leave him alone.

I have the correct lug nuts. Got them at the autofair in charlotte a few years back when I picked up the caps and black covers. You can also get them off ebay.

This is a great idea, I'm sure I will forget about it before I have the $$$ though....
