Ah, patina shmina....
I admittedly wasn't much for the 'patina' look, until I found an unmolested 68. After wondering what to do with it, I started warming up to the idea of 'patina'. It just seems like a shame to disturb its state too much. Now I find myself drooling over afore mentioned trucks.
Here's the history. Truck was bought in Merced Ca. about 40 miles from me. Still has original black plates. Supposedly has only 90,000. 307 with 4 speed. Trim package. Brake booster. HD springs. Even has the owners manual with service records up to 70,000 or so miles (including recapping of tires!) Protecto plate included with 1974 registration card. Missing radiator, water pump, air cleaner, hood springs/hinges and inner fenders. Very little rust. So here's the plan (a budgeted one). 1. Don't touch the body. 2. Budget bag her. 3. LQ4 with 243 heads and cam. 4. 4l80e 5. Front end swap for 73 5 lug (I have one rebuilt with lowered spindles) 6. Rear axle re-drill for 5 lug 7. Wheels. (your suggestions welcome) 8. Fuel tank relocation. Maybe I can get er done before my son turns 16 (He's 2). Last edited by 5150.4.67; 01-08-2011 at 01:19 AM. |

Re: Ah, patina shmina....
I believe I have all/most of the moldings that you're missing, I'll be home for most of the weekend come pick it up, for a pepsi or for nothing.

Re: Ah, patina shmina....
Keep it simple. Fix what's wrong, give it some stance, and drive it.

Re: Ah, patina shmina....
Pulled the 307 which I thought was seized/stuck. As it turns out, its free but the 4 speed granny is tied up. Now I think I'll pull the heads and have a look at the cylinders. If they look good, I might just freshen 'er up and throw a 700r4 with it I have laying around. Here I go, changing plans already. It's been in my mind all day-"Keep it simple".
Anyway a few pics of the ol 307 and the fresh LQ4 I have. I might just save it for my '67 heinz 57 short fleet. |

Re: Ah, patina shmina....
The 700r4 will be a simple way to improve drivability

Don't threaten me with free parts!
