2wd lift and new 18's w/ 33x10.5 Nittos

This post is now in the forum FAQ- "73-87 2wd lift with 33x10.5x 18 Nittos"

18x8" Chevy 6 lugs wheels off a new Z71, Nitto Terragrappler 33x10.5. Rear 2.5" Rancho lift blocks with Bilstein 5100 extended shocks. The front has 88-98 Rough Country lift spindles. I'm using the Moog 6454 HD springs. I will have to see if I can get it aligned with them, but the tops of the tires are angled out some. May have to put in shorter springs to get the correct camber. Here's how it looks so far.

That 4" lift kit for the 88-98 looks way more impressive on the 73-87! Looking good

Re: 2wd lift and new 18's w/ 33x10.5 Nittos

Can you post some close up pics. of the suspenion front and rear I have been looking to do this for a long time to my 76 C-10?

Why the 6lug? Did the stock 5lug hubs not work with the lift?

Did the 88-98 spindles fit or did you have to make some mods. ie brakes, tie rods, or brake lines??

Why the new front sway bar? Did the stock one not work?

What is your final height to the top of you door handle?

Any extra details or part numbers would be great!!

THANK YOU!

See, now this looks good. The low-rider isn't my bag. I need a truck to be functional in addition to looking good

I like almost anything w/wheels. I like semi lifted trucks over the extreme sky-scaper rides that look like they'd tip over if taking a turn over 2mph. That being said, who says 'low-riders' aren't functional?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

I stand corrected

My version of functional usually has 5000 lbs in the dump bed.

It's all in how you build them .

You can use 5 lug discs. I used the C2500 LD 6 lugs because my wheels are 6.

The sway bar is a 1 3/8" belltech I've had for years. One problem I ran into was the 88-98 outer tie rods connect to the spindle from underneath and caused interference with the sway bar. I do not know if this would be a problem with the stock sway bar. Since the tie rod joint is smaller then a 73-87, what I did was get a taper reamer from summit and reamed it from above and used the stock tie rod.

The brake hoses are from a 88-98 and they connect to the frame differently. If you clock them just right, they will fit into the hole in the frame and use a horseshoe shaped clip to hold it in.

The spindle, rotors, bearings, calipers, pads, ball joints and hoses I used were from a 1994. The rest is stock 73-87 parts, with 1 ton lower control arms.

For the rear I used block and longer shocks with 4wd axles since I'm using 6 lug wheels.

Re: 2wd lift and new 18's w/ 33x10.5 Nittos

Thank you for the pics. and info!!

Few more questions....

Do you think the 73-87 hubs and calipers will fit the lift spindels?

Why the 1ton lower arm? Is there a problem with the fit of the 1/2ton arms?

What ball joints did you end up using?

Sorry to ask so many question but Iam going to do this to my C-10.Iam on unemployment right now so Iam going to have to buy one thing at a time, but when Iget the build going I will post some pics.

THANK YOU AGAIN THIS HAS BENN A GREAT HELP!!!!!!!!!!

You have to use 88-98 rotors and calipers. Since the 88-98 ball joint is bigger, it wont fit 1/2 ton arms. I'm using 88-98 Raybestos PG (formerly Spicer) ball joints.
