how to restore 67 seat belt buckles
I have some 67 buckles that I want to paint/restore. I'm sure someone has done this before and I was hoping for information and maybe some pictures of the finished item. Some questions I had were-can you take the buckle apart so that it can be painted or powder-coated? Can the "bow-tie" in the center be polished-will it polish up? What paint worked best and any tips that worked for you. I want to either polish the bow-tie or power coat the buckles dark blue and if I can't polish it, maybe powder coat the bow-tie in white.

I repainted mine about 12 yrs. ago. They are all chipped again though. I would definitely go with the powder coating.

ask Raguemoe, he said a guy in Canada restores 'em. He has a thread on the "parts" board.

Re: how to restore 67 seat belt buckles
He only listed the newer style 68-72 w/plastic covers. I've been looking for a set of 67's for awhile. I saw some on ebay last year and I thought it was a mis-print, then after doing some research I found they were a 67 only belt, but someone got the ones on ebay! Maybe contact some of the guys on ebay that do the corvette & camaro seat belts and ask what they would charge.

Re: how to restore 67 seat belt buckles
Thanks for the info but I was hoping to do it myself. I thought it would be common for the 67 crowd.

Re: how to restore 67 seat belt buckles
what color are you wanting to change them to? Mine were originally green, i was changing the interior to Blue and couldn't afford new belts. So my wife suggested dying them. We put the entire belts, metal and all and boiled them in blue dye, took them out, wiped off all the metal and they were blue!! this was maybe 15 yrs ago and there still fine,FYI the color has never stained your hands or clothing.

Re: how to restore 67 seat belt buckles
I had my 67 belts redone by snake-oil (online), they rewebbed, cleaned and resued gm lables, rechrome/painted buckles and anchors. pricey, but I am very happy with my belts.
