bed covers, bed lids

whos making the black vinyl style bed covers for are trucks. i dont want a hard cover. somone has to make the vinyl one. a web search that i was doing showed them stoping at 73 not anything older. yet i see them on some truck pics here. Im looking for the ines that have a rail oarround them that clamps to the bed lip then the cover fastens to that. i dont want to screw buttons to my bed.

thanks in advance

There's a place in Benton, KY that makes 'em. I wanna say Checker is part of the name. Good stuff. Other than that, check out Gaylords.

Re: bed covers, bed lids

20 years ago, a friend and I made bed covers for my truck (71 chev swb) and his (76 chev swb) out of a piece of plywood covered with vinyl. We made a rail that bolted to the inside of the bed. The plywood was mounted to the rail and fit flush inside the bed. A local shop supplied the vinyl.

Mine had a piano hinge about 1.5 feet from the tailgate so I could open up part of the cover for better access.

It lasted about 15 years! I lost it while checking out the top speed. I didn't realize it was gone untill the next day and I guess someone picked it up. I was extremely worried that it might of hit another vehicle on the hiway. I got lucky.

I don't have any pictures of it.

Re: bed covers, bed lids

thanks guys. i like the craftec tonneau for its low profile look. but it leaves the stake pockets open on top. this would cause water to get in to the bed. do the extang covers go out far enough to cover the stake pockets? they dont have any picks of them installed on 67-72 on their web page.

Yes, the extang does cover the stake pockets.
