Question Testing the waters for parts...

Ok, Any of you who have been on the parts board recently has probably seen the overwhelming requests for the glove box lights. ( CLICKEY )
Something I had thought of in the past, but since determined that I don't personally like, is the under hood lamp. (a member has already asked me about it)
I'm sure I could get a bunch, but I don't know if the market is there. This would be another simple upgrade, involving drilling a small hole in the ribbing under the hood and using a short screw to mount it. Then just running a wire to a 12 volt source. (directly to the battery with an inline fuse would work fine)
I am not 'taking orders'...as of yet. If there is a good responce, I will try to grab a hand full next time I'm at one of the local yards.
So is this a good idea, is there a market for this item? (as always, my prices are pretty dang low)

krue, that is another idea, and the older 280Z had a similar set up, but I never see either newer trucks, nor 280s in my local yards.

I seen one of those cord mounted lights in a friend of mine mom's truck. It is a 1996 1500 extended cab. It was mounted on the passanger side innerfender. Might be something to look for in the yards if people are interested.

You left out one on the vote for people that have one already. I put one on mine a few years ago and love it. It's mounted dead center on the hood above the distributor. I used one of those inline fuses found on stereo's for safety to wire it up.

My 69 Chevelle had one originally and gave me the idea.

I just got one from a 80's car in the junkyard. Any yard will have 100's of them.

Hey Andy,
That light might mess up my troubleshooting on these trucks. Like when I pull the plug wire to see if I'm getting spark and the all important do I have a lightning storm going on under the hood test. You know there is so much that could go wrong. I guess I could pull the bulb out to complete the testing. My problem with the fixed light is it rarely illuminates what I want to see.

Try looking at Jeep Cherokees, my '89 came with one that had a cord and could be pulled out to change a spare or stuff like that.

ddsmith, I agree pesonally...I hate them myself. The very first thing i do at the shop when I pop the hood is unplug that light.
But seems like so many ppl like them.

I also saw one of the corded lights....it was on a '89 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4. Pretty cool idea i thought.
I always carry a flashlight....so i don't need a underhood lamp.
