Question Need help w/engine identification!!

I got the numbers that are stamped on a pad that is infront of the right cylinder head. There were big numbers, and then ther were little numbers that were stamped over the big ones. (Or viseversa) The numbers are:BIG: VO317TKB And LITTLE: C7A158066.
If someone could help me decode these I would GREATLY appreciate it. I was told when I bought the truck that it had a 350 in it. When I got it home and was looking over it, the factory sticker that is under the hood said it came with a 305. I dont know weather or not to trust this person. If you look in the LMC catalog, and look on page 11, there are three letter TKB with match with the ones on the engine but I dont know If that is what you go by.
Thanks in advance,
Michael

165 HP is about right for a 305 LE9. Or 350 of some years too depending on compression. You need the number off the block to know for sure.

I will be pulling the engine soon and will get the # off the block. What should I do first to get more HP? I have headers(crappy ones) I am looking for new ones. I have Eddelbrock Performer intake, Performer carb, air cleaner. That is as far as I have gotten so far. What should be the next step? Cam?

I've got a question, if the engine is still sittin in the truck, would i still be able to see the numbers on the back of the block? or would i have to pull it? If i have to pull my engine, i will just believe that it has a 327.

thanks, Jeff
