best wife in the world, but now i got a dilemma about 2 trucks..

first and foremost i have to say i have the best wife in the world

now on to the dilemma. since we found out that our 2nd child was on the way i've had in my mind to sell my 82 and get either a more accessible truck for 2 car seats, or the dreaded minivan!

so i've had it on here for sale and haven't done much else to sell it. well a couple days ago she said that she knows how much i love it and thinks i should keep it. i asked if she knew that there is a lot that i want to do to it and that it will require time and money, of which i will have none extra come july, and she said she understands and i can do it when i have time and money.

well i found an 83 c10 longbed that pretty much has everything done to it that i need to do to mine (interior perfect, side molding, fender emblems) for around the same price as i can sell mine for. now of course there are some problems that his has that mine doesn't (some small rust spots on the body, small leak in the tranny that he can't track down, power window motors need replacing, windshield wiper motor might need replacing, some faded paint on the roof, and gas gauge sometimes sticks).

what are everyones thoughts just from the pics and what he told me (im going to check it out after work today and will take better pics and get more info).

its got a 350/350 dual gas

what ever you do, make sure family comes before the truck. Sounds like you got a great wife though! As long as you aren't going to do a entire new paint job which = $$$$ and the truck seems as reliable as your current one engine/trans wise, I would go with the new one.

i told her that we could get something more roomy but she insisted that i keep the truck as we have a 4 door car that works for the time being!

yeah i hope the paint isn't all jacked up

i would miss my cowl hood though

x2

Also even though the new one has problems that yours doesn't just think which one is going to end up costing you the most $$$ the interior of your old one (from what I'm thinking) is going to cost you a lot more than replacing the gas gauge and the window motors of the new one....and if you could find the tranny leak yourself and fix it yourself that will also save you more $$$ whatever you do hope you figure it out soon before that new one is gone

see thats what im thinkin is that the new ones has so much more cosmetic wise that mine currently needs. heck just the side molding would be upwards of $100-$150

and i do have first dibs on the new one

My question is will you be happy with a long bed? Buy what you "want", not what happen to find. Beyond that, I suggest getting a Burb.

I second the burb option. If you're stuck on a pickup, keep yours. Yours already has the really expensive work done, this LWB truck seems like it could need a lot of money.

well if the motor/tranny check out from my mechanic, i can't see a fuel gauge, power window motors and maybe a wiper motor costing anywhere near what redoing just my interior would cost. not to mention all the small cosmetic things that mine needs. but it all depends on how the motor/tranny check out first and foremost. thats where the real money would be tied up in. well that and how must rust is on the body

im debating rolling up in mine to maybe leave as collateral to see if he'll let me take it home tonight and have it checked all day tomorrow.

Sounds like you want a Suburban there. Wife doesn't have to drive it.

Mini vans are very versital:
You drop down the seats and fill it with stuff from Pick n Pull yards
If it won't fit inside you can always tie it to the roof
If the kids bring their friends they will fit
You and momma get away for weekend get aways
She kicks you out for the weekend you have a place to stay

They're actually a bit shorter than a regular cab longbed Bumper to Bumper

Re: best wife in the world, but now i got a dilemma about 2 trucks..

In my experience, old vehicles are full of unwelcome surprises. Don't expect that a nice looking truck will not have expensive problems in the future. If you want a reliable old vehicle you will have to invest money in it, especially if wife and kids will be transported in it.
