Cheap Altitude Adjustment

Thought I'd post up some pics of the drop I just did on my '69.

Front: Cut two coils off the spring. I will likely have to trim the bumpstops a bit, cause they're pretty close to hitting now.

Rear: Used stock Jeep wrangler (TJ, I think is what the jeep guys call them) coils.

Before:

After:

I should mention that by doing this, you severly limit the load carrying capacity. I wouldn't recommend doing this if your planning on hauling anything remotely heavy in your truck. I'll also need make an adjustable track bar to recenter the rear.

Re: Cheap Altitude Adjustment

Interested on how you make your adj. tracbar..

Ive always heard more than 1- 1 1/2 coils you'll have problems aligning it..

You can make your own shock relocators too:

ps your pics dont show up for me..

Re: Cheap Altitude Adjustment

Do you mean you cut 1 coil off each side= 2 coils because I was told 1 coil would equal 2 1/2".My jeep springs lowered my rear 3" ,I'm gonna cut the fronts if I ever get the fricking ball joints off.

Re: Cheap Altitude Adjustment

To be sure I understand, you guys are using the stock rear coils out of a Wrangler for 3" drop? Humm.. I think I have a set in the garage. Do they seem to work ok? The ride is ok, not too soft with a decent load in the truck?

Re: Cheap Altitude Adjustment

I cut two full coils off each of the front coils. I could have went with 1.5, but I wanted it a bit lower in the front.

I haven't driven it yet, just finished it up tonight.

Stock rear coils, yes. I would not plan on loading anything substantial in the bed with them though. I can almost bottom them out by standing on the tailgate.

Re: Cheap Altitude Adjustment

My rear was quite a bit lower than yours, oldblue... guess they were a little more whopped out, which is why I had to go with 2 coils in front vs. 1.

Re: Cheap Altitude Adjustment

Well, Its been so long I cant remember what it used to ride like (old shocks stock height springs old bushings no swaybar etc).

I didnt tell a difference when I cut the front coils, but the rest was so fast/long ago I dont remember

Re: Cheap Altitude Adjustment

Got a deal on some 20's

Looks pretty good, for the little bit of money I spent, IMO.
