rechroming bumper?

There's different qualities for chrome work. Obviously show chrome is going to cost a lot more than driver quality chrome.

for driver quality you cant beat the price of reproduction bumpers// check the local yellow pages for a chrome plater from prices i've seen in florida it's $500-$1000 per bumper

you will be saving WAYYYY more money buying a repop.

to have one rechromed you will have to find an amazingly straight original, have it media blasted clean, then rechromed.

once upon a time, you could have literally a truck load of chroming done for under $500. those were the good old days..... and the good old days are o v e r.

Just be warned, they don't last that long!

The chrome is very thin and if driven much or if it stays outside, the chrome will get all dotted up which is wear through, then it gets worse from there.

I have 4 repro bumpers now and my trucks stay outside and almost daily driven. They last about 2 years if your lucky before the wear starts.

Well im in a pickle, This is my first "vehicle", itll sit outside and be my daily. I guess the hunt is on for a decent junkyard bumper, or paint it a decent color

I recall something like Bumper Boys? or something similar that drove a semi full of rechromed bumpers around to big car shows like the Auto Fair here in Concord, NC. You could bring in your original bumpers and if they were in decent shape (other than paint/chrome) you could trade them towards a rechromed set. My dad did this on his 55 Chevy, not sure if they are still around, or if that is even the correct name, just popped into my mind.

But IMO buying a set of repops for a driver is the best route, you can get them pretty cheaply now.

Yes - they are Bumper Boyz and they are out of Los Angles California. They hit all the shows - Carlisle, Canton, etc . They have a web site www.bumperboyz.com Lots of folks preorder and then pickup at a show.

All above is correct regarding rechrome VS repop. I went the cheap route with repop about 6 years ago. Began to show signs of wear/rust pits after about 1 year. Began waxing about 3 times a year and no visible signs of added deterioration since. Now wish I would have saved the originals so I could have rechromed the right way.

You aren't really in a "pickle" Longblue, since it's going to sit out and it's going to be your "Daily Driver", then just order one from LMC. Simple and Done.

I'd recommend paying the extra 60 or so to get the premium chrome ones. They are triple nickel plated so the finish is nicer and lasts a little longer. Also if you plan to use it all the time I'd wipe all of the oil off the back when you get it, tape it off, and paint it with primer and an undercoat or truck bedliner spray. Will keep it from rusting out from the back side.
