Should I do this?

Hey guys,

Was wanting your opinion on this subject, I have a 1967 GTO Project car that needs restored, however its in really great shape and doesnt need much rust repair done. Its pretty much complete body wise just no drivetrain.

Now, Ive been wanting my truck bagged for some time now and found a guy that I met years ago that is still bagging trucks and does really nice work. I told him about the GTO and hes been hinting at trading the GTO for bagging the truck.

I wanted to run the porterbuilt stuff but if I do I wont beable to buy the other stuff I want for quite some time. And I dont like waiting im impatient.

So im looking for opinions and input - Should I trade him the GTO for Bagging the truck?

I say no. Keep the GTO and get the porterbuilt setup if that's what you really want. The porterbuilt setup is expensive but you can install it yourself. That will save you labor cost. Patients is key.lol

Noooooo i mean you can do whatever you want but i say no gtos are awesome. You can always get your truck bagged but finding another gto in good shape well.... they don't make thoes anymore but air bags are still avaliable thats just what i think

Sell the GTO and buy the Porterbuilt stuff.
Or wait and buy the Porterbuilt stuff.
I don't consider it expensive, for what your are getting.
At least get the Dropmember up front to fix all the flaws of the GM suspension, when you are bagging one of these trucks.
Then you can go cheaper on the back half, if you want.

Deals always go south when you trade for labor.
(especially with friends)
Usually the value of his labor and the value of your parts is never agreed upon by both parties.

Ok, I read all of your posts and you are all right, its not worth it I think I will hold onto it for a few more years.

I dont really consider the porterbuilt stuff expensive either, my mind set was, I could have the truck bagged and body dropped for $4500 through the guy complete including parts. Or I could spend almost 6k on the porterbuilt and air management setup. And the reason the price is so high is, if I get the porterbuilt drop members might as well go all out and get their control arms and any other stuff they make that replaces stock stuff so it all matches.

With the porterbuilt I would also run a Ride Tech Airpod.

It would just take alot longer to finish the truck that way, another thing is if I do decide to go with porterbuilt im going to buy top of the line everything even if it takes longer.

As the old saying goes "Build it right the first time".

I agree- pics of said GTO.

a 67 GTO is my dream car. I think I found a 66/67 tempest today(pretty sure a 67)...sitting in someones back yard, it was half covered by a tarp- it may be a 4-door. But the wife said to go check ot out- so I plan to. I want to do a clone- so I don't feel guilty for modding the crap out of a real Goat.

I agree about the keep the car, buy the porterbuilt route- this is my plan. The porterbuilt front end is 95% bolt in. Unless the car is trully worth less than the cost to do it right, I can't see any GTO in even decent shape is worth an air ride suspension. You'll NEVER get the money back out of the truck. But the GTO's value will never go down.

x2 here. Keep the GTO, and save save save away. I agreee w/lolife99, do porterbuilt up front but maybe go with something else for the rear. Either way, keep the goat and bag the truck. That seems to be what you really want in the end.

you didnt mention what the goat means to you, sentamental value ? personaly I dont care for them car's, but if there is personal or family history behind the car that change's every thing. if it were me I would clean the goat up and see if I could get enough outta it to cover the PorterBuilt stuff .

Ya I agree with you, doesnt matter what I do to the truck the value will always be the same, as the value of the gto will continue to slowly rise.

Haha, you make a point, but the reason im not on any GTO forums is they are all hardcore about being numbers matching, if I want to put an LSX motor in the GTO then so be it, but these guys come at you with pitch forks and torches. When in the end Pontiac Designed the LSX

As it is now, If I was to get rid of it I could get enough to buy the front and rear drop member and still have some left over. The only value it has, is its the first car I bought with my own money, no help from mom and dad did it all by myself. People have always told me I should just get rid of it and I wont ever finish it, I think thats the reason why I hold onto it. So I can prove them wrong.

Sell the car. If you don't have the cash on hand to buy porterbuilt stuff, I doubt you have the cash to restore the goat. Sell it to someone who will restore the car and use the money to put into your truck. Your truck will get built faster if its the only project you have.

I just dropped 6k on set of 22s with tires for the truck when I had a perfectly good set of 20s on the truck that I had just bought just because I wanted bigger and to be different.

The money isnt the problem the problem is I change my mind all the time and cant ever stick to anything. I do get what your saying, but once I decided exactly how I want the GTO to look in my head it will get done. I just dont think about it right now and am focused on the truck.

I was just considering the trade as an option since the guy was asking and if I could have the truck bagged for just trading, it would save me 5k.

I dont think I will ever sell the GTO because when I do post the car up every call I get people want to use it as a parts car and cut it up. This car is in too good of shape to be hacked away and used for a parts car for some other guys GTO thats swiss cheese.

The guy doesnt want to trade now anyways, just checked my email. He thought it included a motor and tranny, doesnt want that large of a project.
