Just a couple of easy questions... If you please
So... In the stages of engine swap in my 1966 C10 fleetside. 283 out and early model 350 in. Stock tranny is an old granny 4 sp. I'm keeping this box.. My DUMB question is how is the shifter removed from the top of the box? Is it actually a quarter turn lock type retainer?
Ques. #2. anyone know a header P/N model that I can use with no clutch linkage mod?? Seems most I can find come with a disclaimer of some sort "maybe requiring clutch linkage mod"?? #3. It appears (from what I can gather) that the 283 flywheel will work just fine with the 350..... Is this true? I'm so looking forward to getting her back on the road! Has been a couple of years and the light at tunnels end is getting bigger! Thank you for any help and or advice!!! PS LPG conversion soon.... Anyone know of a good installation... If it's like this photo, you should be able to press down on the convex crown and twist counter-clockwise about 1/2" to release. It is spring loaded so you might have to use some muscle. Spray with a lubricant or something to break up the dirt/rust.Hope this helps. No dumb questions, other than the ones I have asked.

These are the headers I have on my '65 with a small block and the granny SM420 trans. I had to "dimple" one primary tube for the bell crank to clear but othewise they work fine. |

If your doing the LPG for cheaper fuel, look again, you wont get the mileage that the gas will provide because the gas has a more violent reaction than the LPG which give the motor more power and better efficiency.
My dad had a 66 with the LPG conversion, initial cost was about 1500.00 and then he had to have it inspected every year, also he only got about 8mpg on the LPG and he got over 12 on gas. just info for thought.

Stay away from LPG... aside for the reasons stated regarding less power and efficiency I think that you will find LPG is going to get very expensive soon which will defeat any added cost savings you may have been expecting (and weren't going to receive anyways).

I'm still having header issues.. Actually it's all mental.... I'm thinking about block huggers now.. I really don't want to "dimple" any primary pipes to get the clutch linkage to fit... I have no problem using long pipes I just want a nice clean fit.... Any good ideas on mfg's and or P/N's...
Rookie questions I know... But looking a pictures is tough and I don't want to spend $$ only to have to return etc.. Thanks for any and all help!! |

Hedman #69260 will work without any modifications. Those are the ones made for these trucks. The Hedman #69090 should work as well as Hooker #2452, but there is the possibility of having to do a slight modification to either the header or clutch linkage.
As long as your 350 is a '85 or older engine, the 283 flywheel will bolt right up.
