Decode part# please 3817778 ring and pinion gears(pics added)
I know these are 373 gears and are suppose to be NOS. They are date coded 6-71 and are marked 11:41 which is 3.72727727 if divided (3:73) I just need to know if these are truck gears. My buddy purchased them at a swap meet and they were sold to him as car gears and he said they are not for a car he thinks they are truck gears. I will try and post pics of them in the morning. I am pulling 4 12 hr. nights this weekend. (#3817778)
Thanks for your help PT

Pulled that thread up from the dead.... Here's another: http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/gm-r...ion-89342.html My guess is that they're truck gears.

Re: Decode part# please 3817778
Yes they are truck gears and make a 3:73 ratio, the GM master parts catalog shows 65-72 1/2 ton CK&P models and 70-72 Blazer used GM part # 3961415 which used part# 3817778 ( Ring Gear ) & part# 3884935 ( Pinion Gear )to make a Ring & Pinion set to make a 3:73 ratio gearing for the 65-72 1/2 ton truck.

Re: Decode part# please 3817778
Here are some pics. I do not know if these are new or not. My friend bought these at a swap meet and wants to sell them but I just cannot tell. If they are not new they are in exc. cond. I cannot find any wear marks on them. I will post some pics of them and the pinion gear does read 3884935 11:41 6-71 GM. The ring gear reads 3817778 11:41 GM 6-71 1. Also on the base of the pinion gear it is stamped 1-14. You guys be the judge and I know this needs to be moved to the WIW section because he wants to sell them and I need to get an idea of what they are worth.
Thanks guys PT
