16.5 Wheels & Tires

I bought some really nice 8 lug aluminum slots a while back and now Im ready to get some tires. The front wheels are 16.5x8.25 and the back are 16.5x9.75.My question is what tire size would look good on a 2wd truck?I've had a few people say a 16'' tire will work and I've had some say no it won't.Any input would help. Thank's

Re: 16.5 Wheels & Tires

An 8.75x16.5 would be close to stock size. about 29.5" tall. and no a 16" tire will not work, the bead would tear if you could even mount it. Just a warning 16.5" tires are fairly expensive as they are and oddball size not commonly used anymore.

16" tires will not work, you'll have to stick with the 16.5's. I don't know you're set up, but i'm running 31X10.5's on the 2WD, and like the look.

Re: 16.5 Wheels & Tires

You are talking to the wrong people if they tell you a 16 inch tire will work on a 16.5 rim. you will have to have a 16.5 tire. And they are getting spendy as all the late model trucks got away from them years ago.

I have 2.45 75-16 tires on my 71 which are the same size that is on my son's 2000 GMC 4x4. They fit my wheel wells pretty nicely on 8 inch alloy rims and the speedometer is right on the money and reads as it did with the old original tires and split rims.

The tires are 30 inches tall and that is the number you probably want. Right at a 30 inch tall tire on your rims. A 9.5R 16.5 is 30.5 inches tall. Which was probably how tall my tires were 30,000 miles ago.
