Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

I'm kind of happy I never sold my spare cab. I was only asking 200 for it with a title/vin plates. I'll save the pillar area with the vin plates and cut the rest of it up to use as patches for the four or five rust spots on the cab. Will also grab some floor flat sheetmetal to use for the lower door patch and possibly the bedside patch.

Probably will also be able to sell the header panel/windshield area of that spare cab for decent money as it's perfect.

looking really good! i'll have to get a wire brush like that for my drip rails. Can you turn your cab over to do the bottom? i'll be intrested to see how the bottom of your cab looks and if you have to do any rust repair...

It's a great tool for the drip rails. Also great for door jambs and the window channels.

The cab is pretty nice under but I will have to patch two of the cab supports (front two are really bad)The back two are really nice! I will be cleaning that to bare metal also and it will be primed/blocked/ and painted body color just like the rest of the cab.

At least I'm working on it daily now I am waiting on my welder/body guy to clear up room in his shop and I'll be working in his shop using power tools as soon as it's over there...

The shield is a big block specific item. Cab is really good for this area! It's VA's version of an AZ cab

It was...now it's not but it's not what I'm using either due to the second gear pin...

Thanks! I like the paint stripper disc on the grinder better for flat surfaces but the cup and wheel work well for curves/tight spots.

Home early for church and plans cancelled for this afternoon due to my wife being under the weather. Probably won't get much truck time though as I will help take care of her and watch the girls....

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

Well, I was right. No time to work on the truck. But I might have lined up someone to sandblast the frame, underside of the cab, and the complete bed for a good price We'll see....I hope it works out because it will move forward the project and catch me back up to where I wanted to be.

Thanks. I'm pretty excited how it's going to come out. With the great parts going on it, it's bound to look awesome!

I sold some parts today so I'll be getting a few more needed parts next week....and probably going to get the blasting done on the remaining parts. Have to get my hood added into that deal

Talking with Jason to see how soon I can get it over to his shop. and if he can get the painter lined up. If not, I'll be figuring that end out asap to have it lined up....this truck will NOT be in paint jail... I'll be doing everything up until the final spraying of sealer, color, and clear.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

Nice progress J!

Would you mind getting an upclose shot of the tach wiring opening next to the wiring harness on the firewall? And if possible, with a tape measure showing the diameter of the opening? I'm trying to determine the correct dimple for a factory wiring harness.

Thanks buddy!

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

A few turned into several....

Here you go...

Hole itself is 11/16" (3/4") and is slightly dimpled in towards the inside of the cab

11/16" from the E-brake hole edge

and 5/8" from the main wiring harness connector hole

It did Royally stink

I talked with a guy today who does affordable sandblasting. I'm going to get him to do the underside of the cab, any areas I missed with my work, the bed (at least the underside) and the complete frame/all components

From what I can tell from the pictures, it's the 3rd dimple from the bottom correct?

Not sure on that, but it's basically centered between the e-brake and the wiring block. There is only one close to the center so that'll be the one

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

Talked to another person about sandblasting and had another email me....might be able to start a bidding war

Hope to get it done in the next week so I can get Jason started on the rust repair. He's ready for me now.

Spending loads of money on the truck right now. I'm gonna end up going at least a few thousand over budget but it's going to be much nicer because of that. Found NOS parts I couldn't pass up and some great original pieces for my engine brackets.....

Plus, the interior is way over budget but it's going to be amazing!!!
