.. OK so i painted what i could paint .. but theres always that intake manifold and carb.. The manifold is an edlebrock performer series i wanna say... whick im assuming is not coated with anything.. im sure i absolutely have to remove it. but my question is what can i use to clean this and the carb to mak ethem look new.. should i spray the intake with some paint?

Performer series is aluminum, so it won't rust or anything. They do have coated ones, though

yeah its alumnum but how do i clean it? everything sticks to it.. dirt grease. paint (from 20 yrds away lol)

Clean it with brake clean, paint with aluminum engine enamel

I used a new Holley intake and painted it to match my valve covers. To make it last, I clear coated it with some polycarbonate clear. This clear dries very hard and is used on airplane exteriors. Resistant to jet fuel, temp changes, and most anything else.

Have it powdercoated. There are countless colors and textures out there to choose from. It's not that much more than painting it and you get much longer lasting results.

They hold up fine to the engine heat. I can't understand why any coater wouldn't want to do intakes. Wheels and engine parts are my most common items. Heck, you can buy intakes powdercoated brand new from the manufacturer.

Is there a way to remove the casting texture from the intake that does not involve hours of sanding?

Yes.

The coater can bake on a few coats of filler powder first. This seals the casting up and makes it smooth. Then color powder followed by clear and it should look plastic smooth. My photography is lacking but I've done a few this way they they look very slick, the pictures just don't show it as well as real life. Beware though, your coater is certain to charge more for filler powder, color, then clear. You're looking at 4 plus baking cycles to get it glass smooth.

It's from PBTP. It's that expensive stuff they sell. I'll have to look on the jug when I get home. Maybe "super durable" if I remember right.

I had mine powdercoated and we used powder filler. It came out great but I didnt want it glass smooth so we did 2 coats. all the powdercoaters I know would laugh at the idea of it not holding up to heat. Cell phone pic is crap I know

Once again Tx Firefighter is right on the money. Powder coating is the way to go.
I also like to bead blast them for a quick fix........just make damn sure its clean when your done!

Can you clear powdercoat right over the bare aluminum? I've been told by the local powdercoaters that it will turn out gray? I would like to do my Victor Jr manifold, and my valve covers, but I would like some bling to them. I've also thought about the ceramic coating. Any help would be appreciated.

When you shoot clear powder over a bare aluminum manifold you get a medium grey color. I'll get pics in a little while for you. I have one in the shop like that.

I had one done and it came back orange instead of chevy orange. It has never been installed. Can they powder over the top of the wrong color?

They can coat over whats there or strip the powder off before recoating it (best method).

Did you ever think about polishing it? Its labor intensive, but nice and shiny when your done. Dirt and grease wipe right off afterwords. I have polished tons of aluminum at home. Kind of satisfying when done.
