1976 454 Electric Fan???

Guys, I have read alot of the past posts but can't make the final decision without asking directly.

Do I keep the engine driven fan of the 1976 454 that I just swapped into my 1987 chevy truck and create shroud to fit it? Or buy a 4000 cfm dual electric fan set up?

I don't want to spead the $500 on the electric fan set up but want the hp and additional gas mileage aslong as it is going to cool it.

If the electric fan is a good option for my highway driven truck, what minimum CFM do you recommend?

Re: 1976 454 Electric Fan???

i run dual electric fans off of a 2004 ford excursion on mine with a big block radiator(4-row).with no fan and it runs cold.

but our shjortbed with a stock shroud stock good clutch fan etc still runs better.

i like the good clutch fans and shroud.never overheated on me

Re: 1976 454 Electric Fan???

I have a Gen IV big block in my 73, clutch fan from a '79 350, 3 row radiator from an unknown year truck, full fan shroud from another unknown year truck, I have ZERO heating issues.

Re: 1976 454 Electric Fan???

I have a 454 with stock oil cooler and A/C and granny 4 speed in the AZ desert with stock fan and larger 3 row ReadyRad replacement radiator. I also have no cooling problems, even in 115 degree desert heat. Why not try to stock set up and keep an eye on the temp gauge to see if you need something more? I have had two 454 squares and neither overheated due to fan issues.
