How to open hood latch

I was going to take apart the 87 front clip I bought today and cam across a problem. The guy I bought it from removed the hood release cable and latched the hood completely down. I don't see any way to get to it to release it. Any suggestions?

Re: How to open hood latch

I assume your looking at just a front clip not bolted to a truck. Its pretty easy. follow to where the cable hooks to move that lever with a screwdriver or whatever else you can reach it with.

Maybe i need to set the clip flat. It is standing on it's end right not and I couldn't see any way to get to the lock.

If you're not sure where the cable hooks up, maybe take a look at another truck like the one you're looking at. Just make sure the owner isn't watching, so you don't get shot...

Re: How to open hood latch

I did this when I was painting my truck, I had to burn out the bolts with a torch. We then drilled a hole under the lever so we could unlatch it with a screw driver.

Re: How to open hood latch

In the assembly plant we used to use a piece of flat sheetmetal cut into a "hook" shape.

You slide the hook between the hood and the top of the radiator support, grab ahold of the latch lever (where the cable connects) and pop it.
