Hand Choke Setups

I finally got my Q-Jet rebuilt this week and picked up a manual choke "kit" and was wondering if anyone had some pictures of your hand choke setups especially where you put the pull knob in the cab and routing the cable for the least binding issues. Also should I put the aluminum spacer back on under the carb that someone before me installed? The truck is stock so I don't know if it really makes a difference or not. The only reason I can think that it was installed is so the aftermarket air cleaner could fit over the HEI dizzy.

You might be able to sneak the cable through the firewall grommet for the speedo cable, shortest distance between two points. Yes, reinstall the spacer.

Excellent decision. I have converted every square I have owned to manual choke. Now you can control the choke and know for sure when it is open or closed. You will have to tighten the set screw once every six months or so. The best way to use it is to depress the accelerator all the way to the floor, then pull on the choke knob, then keeping pressure on the knob - release the accelerator. This will set the choke all the way closed. If you don't keep pressure on the knob it will not close the last 1/32" or so. The choke cable goes through a grommet hole in the firewall just behind the left valve cover. (My rubber grommet is missing.) The carburetor spacer will help with starting when the engine is hot. It is normally used when an aftermarket carburetor (Holly, Edlebrock) is adapted for use on a Qjet (spreadbore) intake manifold. Here are some pics.

Awesome, I was about to post this same thing. Just figured out yesterday that the e-choke i hooked back up didn't work. About to go manual
