help

how come my starter bumps in when i put my truck (72) in reverse,thanks

The only place the two electrical circuits come close together is in the backup lights and the park/neutral switch down on the steering column. Sounds like a bad switch with an internal short of some kind, the circuits are separate from one another in the switch but some how there shorting from one to the other.
