Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

Hi & thanks Geoff.
I decided to stick with the Ram Horns... I just love the look of those things. I know it will cost me some performance wise, but this is not a race truck, so I will live with it. I am very pleased with the work the exhaust guy did. He spent a bunch of time figuring out the best way to do it & kept it very clean for me.

Exhaust tips

Here is a quick shot of the before and after exhaust tips. We decided to keep it clean and simple this time. The originals were off a 70 Chevelle SS & though I love the tips, I always felt they were just a bit too large for the lowered truck.

Cab work

The bodywork has begun on the cab. The new floor has been installed, new drip rails, cab corners, kick plates & rockers are all in as well. I wish I could say I have been some help on this part, but other than inspiration, I am pretty much worthless on bodywork.

More cab & seats

A few more photos of the cab progress. The seats came back from the upholstery shop this week & are no longer blue! We went with a mix of fabric for the touch points, perforated vinyl in the center and standard vinyl on the sides and back. Everything is black. Though the seats came out of a 91 Silverado, I am pleased how they look in this truck & look forward to seeing them when the cab is all back together.

Drivers Side & Wood

Work continues on the cab. Now fitting the drivers door and front fender, also installing the drivers side cab corner.

While the body work has been continuing, I stained the bed wood floor, using a cinnamon color stain from Bruce Horkey's, that should look great against the Blade Silver Metallic paint. The Spar Marine Varnish is about 50% completed now and should be all done by the middle of next week.

Work continues... slow and steady.

Thank you for all the nice & encouraging comments!

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

A month ago I posted and said the wood floor should be done in a week. That week took a month, but it is finally done. The wood floor has been the most frustrating part of this project by far... that is actually an understatement! I ended up needing to trim the width on a couple boards to get everything to fit into place like it was meant to be. Ryan at Carolina Classic Trucks was outstanding to work with through this wood bed ordeal & really stood behind his product.

Work continues on the cab. It is back to being an all steel cab now. New corners, floor, rockers, roof header, foot wells & misc rust spots repaired. The door locks & antenna have also been filled.

Have a great 4th....

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

Super nice! I am for sure going with silver after seeing that. What did you finish the bed wood with? Is it Red Oak or White Oak?

Wood floor....

Hi all & thanks for the positive comments. They are very motivating for me. The wood is red oak & the finish is "cinnamon" from Bruce Horkeys. There are 3 coats of finish (2 coats on boards 4 & 7 - subtle "SS" stripes) per board & 6 coats of spar varnish.

Things have been very slow on my end, though the body work continues.

Should have some new pix this week.

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

Freakin beautiful!!! I would love to do that with my bed when I get to that hurdle but its just too pretty for me, I would be scared to breath on it :-) great work, I had to do all the same repairs on the cab of my 72, about ready for Epoxy finally. Hope mine comes out half as nice as yours.

Quick Update

Hi all... a quick update. The doors are epoxy primed, the cab is just about all prepped and should have the epoxy primer on it this coming week. The cab has been a huge project, but is just about done, and it is going to be better than new...certainly straighter than it ever came out of the factory. The body man had over 60 hours alone last month on the cab & it is not done yet!

I also came across a nice set of buckets and a console from a '70. I have already had 1991 low back buckets redone, so I am not sure if I am going to use them, or go with these new ones... but could not pass them up.

Thanks....

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

A few more pictures. I was really thinking I should keep the radio as an original "post" style unit since I really did not want to cut the dash. But the reality is that I removed the ash tray completely and also did some other customization in the cab, so I went ahead and cut it for a modern Alpine system. Nothing serious.
