I switched to a widebox from a stepside, got a correct bumper but was wondering if these shields are suppose fit the same way as on a stepside? are bumper brackets the same?

The location of the holes for the shields are the same. The wide box shields hang over a lot more to the outside to compensate for the wider box.

Are the shields necessary? I have a huge honkin bumper made out of diamond plate and it is FUGLY.

I am in the process of buying a new sportsied" bumper and saw the dust shields in the catalog and was wondering about them.

Will it look weird if say a person were to omit them?

they are not really noticeable unless you are looking directly down at them

Thanks leddzepp! I wasn't sure if it would look weird with out them. I have never paid any attention to them. Didn't even know the existed actually.

I will probably go ahead and order them when I order everything else for the rear bumper. It's only money right?!

I fabricated a one piece out of the plastic top part of a mid 90's blazer bumper I pilfered from a junk yard. Cut it down with a scoll saw and bolted it in. It covers the whole gap instead of just the two area's the originals covered and as stated you don't even notice it unless you are looking right at it. When I get my final bodywork done I will have one fabricated out of sheet metal.
