Power steering pump bracket
I have a BB with a short water pump, March V-belt pulleys, the alt. mounted on the driver's side and am having a problem coming up with the proper pwr steering pump bracket. I have tried a couple of different brackets (stock steel from a Chevelle and billit from Zoops) but don't like the fit, any suggestions?

Re: Power steering pump bracket
I'm guessing you're having problems with the pulley hitting the truck frame. No aftermarket companies currently produce one that will fit.
I got the same problem. My truck is a 1970 C30 1-ton, BBC, SWP. The bracket that is required to clear the frame (correct me if I am wrong) is also used on BBC Vettes and Chevelles from the late 60's. The pump sits higher, and further out than the off-the-shelf brackets. Even Black Mountain Precision's bracket wouldn't fit. I wound up having a bracket custom made. I started a thread way back then: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=380982 It will be similar to BMP's, but taller and longer. You may have to move the alternator over to the other side, too. Last edited by suprachrgd82; 05-23-2011 at 04:28 PM. |

Re: Power steering pump bracket
I am very interested in you winning this battle since I'll be fighting it in the future. I, too, have the stock steering pump.
I'm rooting for you Randy! |

Re: Power steering pump bracket
Randy, I'm looking at your images and trying to see what could fix the pump hitting the frame. If the shiny mount on the bottom of the steering pump had a longer lower arm (horizontal part of the bracket), maybe 1" to 1.5" longer and it was angled up around 30-40 degrees would it clear the frame and would it clear the alternator and the alternator bracket?

I got the pump and pulley mounted, found the correct length belt but the pump pulley is not aligned correctly. I need to shim the crank, water pump and alternator pulley to line up with the power steering pump pulley, something I didn't want to do but that way the problem should be solved. You would think for all the money these pulleys cost they would jump out of the box and install themselves. |
