Rear Axle seals on 67 heavy half ton
Can I replace the rear axle seals on a 67 without opening up the differential?

Remove the diff. cover. Remove the pinion shaft bolt. Remove the pinion shaft. Push the axle in and remove the " C " clips. Pull the axles out. Remove the seals. My advice is to purchase a reproduction FACTORY service manual for your year vehicle. It is a worthwhile investment. These trucks are a religion and a FACTORY service manual is the Bible. |

take a look at the axles shafts as well to make sure the bearings aren't grooving....you may want to change the axle bearings while you are there....(one of those might as well items)

Re: Rear Axle seals on 67 heavy half ton
what are you calling a heavy half ton? How many lugs?
I only ask becouse there is no such thing in 67 - 72. a 6 lug is a half ton, and 8 lug is 3/4 ton (or one ton) and depending on what you have, the answer could suck, or suck bad. |

The truck came with what looks like factory overleafs, I had loaded it with a ton of gravel and the box only dropped down a few inches.
