Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

http://s289.photobucket.com/albums/l...0530111225.mp4

I hope the link works.

Trucks jacked up, shouldnt the tire spin more 'freely' than this?

New soft lines, new hard lines, new 71 MC for disc drum new booster etc etc new calipers

Im stumped.

Doesn't seem to extreme to me. Drive it, check it to see if it gets hot.

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

Does it seem like they are dragging? I only have about 25000 miles on the truck since I bought it (droev it awhile before I went disc).

Im on my 2nd pair of rotors and these ones are grooved really bad.

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

Looks like a little too much drag to me, How many miles did you get out of your first set of rotors ?

Have you tried cracking the bleeder and see if it frees up ?

Compressed the caliper with a C-clamp and see if it frees up ?

Any chance you have the bearings adjusted a little too tight ?

How did you convert to disc, A aftermarket kit or OEM parts from a newer truck ?

Sorry for all the Q's.....

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

New parts/and parts from autozone etc etc etc (autozone, advance, orielly etc).

The bearings COULD be too tight, but I can hear it screech past the pads every rotation.

I'll crack the bleeder next chance I get and see what happens.

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

If I were you i would take the wheel off and take the brake caliper off. spin the rotor... does it spin easily or does it drag and stop like in the video.. if it drags like in the video, you probally overtightened the center bearings. What can cause excessive wear on the bearings and spindle.
If it spins freely put the caliper back on and press the brake to get the pads close to the rotor... does it stop like in the video? if so your caliper might be sticking or maybe the pads are incorrect like they are to thick or something. start with the basics or start replacing random parts for no reason...

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

Stripped bleeder, broke the front line just below the prop valve to let fluid out. Still tight. Separated MC and booster and nothing. Squeezed the caliper and it spun freely.

Its NOT an over tightened wheel bearing nut.

Maybe the wrong brake pads or something?

Also, the inside of the rotor is grooved alot, the outside isnt, what the heck is going on?

thank you

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

I have also seen a stopped up hose do this. Causing the caliper to stay compressed somewhat it wouldnt let all the pressure back off when you let go of the brakes. Once I replaced the hose it freed up.

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

well, it's hard to tell from the video but I'm with lakeroadster and y5mgisi (if indeed y5mgisi is referring to the video and not his state of mind) on this. it's my understanding (quite possibly wrong) that disc brakes don't "retract" like drum shoes do. they release pressure, yes (if your's weren't, you wouldn't be able to move the wheel) but they don't pull away, instead relying on the small wheel wobble to create clearance.

my guess is that when the new pads wear into the grooves in the rotor it'll free up more.

is the bleed screw pointing down or up?

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

I am not sure which calipers you used but some have bolts that slide into the caliper bracket and others have studs on the caliper bracket that the caliper slides on. If those get dry the caliper can seize on them. Causing the caliper to stick and can cause this.

Also did you use the 1" or the 1 1/4" rotors? did they give you the correct pads and calipers to match the thickness of the rotors? Some of the swap guides mention both thicknesses of rotors.

How much heat it coming from it when you stop? Does the other side do this or does it spin freely?

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

I wanted to check both sides out last nite but didnt have room on the other side so I said forget it and went inside.

I believe I have the 1.25" rotors, I assume I have the right pads/rotors combo...

I guess I could take them back 'under warranty'? (Lifetime I think).

Im using 1971-1972 calipers (I cant remember which year exactly).

Caliper bracket?...Im using 71 72 stock spindles..
