Re: Help? Hauling a roller.
Yes, you disengage the drive shaft if it's an automatic. To be on the safe side, I would drain the trans fluid and remove the drive shaft completely.
The longest trip I've done with a tow dolly is about 250 miles but I was towing an 87 Cutlass Supreme -a fairly light vehicle. Towing a truck may be a little more hazardous with a dolly. I towed my 69 thirty miles and it got somewhat squirrelly at the higher speeds since the weight is not evenly distributed. I also towed my 68 with a wide (84") 16 ft. flatbed trailer and it was a lot easier. Bottom line, I would bite the bullet and rent a trailer if I had to go longer than 50 miles. |

Re: Help? Hauling a roller.
Forgot to mention... The dollys you rent at U Haul may not fit properly. The truck is going to be wider than their widest dollys. I had to put original narrow wheels on my 69 and it still was a tight fit.

Re: Help? Hauling a roller.
If you can get a trailer from a LARGE uhaul dealer, they usually have newer equipment. Buddy rented a trailer and it was damn near brand new. He had great luck with it, but i would agree for the most part the small dealer stuff sucks.
I bought a trailer for $3k, best money my company ever spent. lol.

Re: Help? Hauling a roller.
YES...make sure you dont have wide wheels on it....take 2 narrow pizza cutters with you to put on the front if needed!

Re: Help? Hauling a roller.
Look for a trailer to buy. You can probably use it and resell it for what you paid for it. I don't use mine but a few times a year, but when I need one it is there.
