TH400 Crossmember placement Question
You know how when you take stuff apart and you make those "mental" notes about where stuff goes? Yeah, we did that when we stripped the '69 SWB chassis down for sandblasting and painting. So, today we put the crossmember back into the chassis....and the mental notes are gone.
From the center-to-center placement of the holes in the crossmember, we found one good set of holes in the frame that line-up. I don't have a picture, but hopefully I can get one today. The chassis is at my sons' house.... Anybody got an answer or picture that shows what I'm asking about?

Re: TH400 Crossmember placement Question
I don't have any pics for you Don but if you are going to drop the engine and trans in together just measure the distance from the engine mount to the trans mount and set the xmember accordingly.

Re: TH400 Crossmember placement Question
Jim, it isn't bolted in-place, but I think we have it right. It won't be a big deal to adjust the position when the engine/tranny are ready to install. Gotta get the chassis up on 4 wheels, first. Still gonna get the rear end sandblasted externally and painted, before we pull the axles and backing plates to refinish it. Nothing happens as quickly as we like, but my son is the eternal optimist, as well as the one cracking the whip, and he foresees it being on all 4 by July 4. I hope he's right. That would be sweet. Still gotta get some $$$ to buy the new brake lines and cables, as well as a gas tank to go beneath the bed. I'm gonna go hit up a couple of boat shops and see if they have anything that might fit.
