20" on C10 '65

Hi!
I just bought a C10 '65 and will ship it to Sweden from Michigan.
Its a long fleetside. My first truck, and I just love it.
Not very common over here.

Thinking of fitting a set of 20" five spoke Boss wheels from Summit.
Can some one help me with which sizes on rim and tire that would fit?
Lug spacing and backspace? Can I use 8,5" in front and 10" in back?

How much drop could be achived without airride system, and still have a daily driver?

A lot would depend on the suspension under the truck, is it coils in the rear or Leaf spring. I think you could go with some 20's but it would be a lot less expensive and better riding to go with 17". Trucks are supposed to have a little sidewall, they don't handle well anyway so you might as well be comfortable. Kieth

You need to determine how much clearance you have front and rear to determine width and offset..........you might be safer talking to Delmo he knows a lot more than most of us about clearance issues and tall wheels. I have 9" cragers 17" diameter front and rear, but since I used a 91 burb front end, the offset is a lot different front to rear. I am using 265/70/17 front and rear and they seem fine. They are about 29" tall. how tall would your 20s' be ?

But as I see it, its more like two diffrent styles to change from 20's to 17's.
But I like the steel wheels with white wall tires.

i got a 65 gmc 1500 that i put 20x9's on all the way around this is a leaf truck fronts have 275 45's and the backs are 305 45's and the rears have 2 inch spacers to fit the rear rite. The truck will be coming down 3 to five inches all said and done the rims still look small in there. hope that helps a little. my rims and tires sit about 30 1/2 inches tall

WOW! It seems like your intentions are good, but your information not so much. The size of the rim has absolutely nothing to do with the ride or handling. If you put a low profile tire on a 15" rim it will be 10x rougher riding than a higher profile tire on a 22" wheel.

My guess here would be that size of rim has to do with how big can he go with out having to major mods like cut inner fenders and what not, but thats just my guess

Hi all!
Since I'm a new fan of pick up's I guess I will change my mind a lot before executing... :-) Especially after finding this forum!
Found this pic under the "two tone paint" thread, this one swept me of my feet, this is the real deal...

Can someone help me out with what kind of wheels this is and size? Also, is this the factory blue paint same as on mine, hard to tell on pictures.

The really low white truck is what I was aiming for earlier.

On my truck I have 20X8.5 with 5.5" back spacing. and they are 6 lug torque thrust wheels. The fronts fit just fine but I have the later model disc set up under it that space the wheels out 3/4" per side. On the rear with 305 45" it is a huge tire. With the air ride I get the ride height and rake I want but I did have to widen the wheel houses 2". This is with a stock rear and I have about an inch of clearance to the bed sides at eh closest point at ride height travel range. With the stock setup you have the fronts may have to much back spacing. I would make all the chassis updates you have planned first and then pick wheels that fit after the mods. If I have the oppertunity I am going to switch the fronts to 18's.

I think what he was eluding to is the lack of cushioning you get when the tire has very little sidewall height. In that respect the tire, not the wheel, has a considerable effect on the ride quality.

John you are 100% correct.

The concept that the size of the rim dictates the sidewall height of the tire is incorrect. The size of the rim has absolutely NOTHING to do with ride firmness, form or function. It is determined by the sidewall profile and rubber compound of the tire. Simply put, you can run a 25 series sidewall on a 15, 16, 17 or what ever size wheel and it will give a rough ride. Consequently, you can also run a 50 series tire on a 22" rim and it will give a soft ride.

I'm not trying to come off as argumentative here, but this topic is one that is commonly replied to with misinformed or biased answers.
