1964,65 and 66 cab question

Is thier a difference between any of the 64-66 cabs, other then the location of the vin numbers ?..Can i tell them apart by looking at them ?

wutnxt, there is no difference I am aware of - obvious same things, a pillar, dash, etc. If there is some nit noid, I'm certainly not aware of it - but that doesn't mean there isn't something that could be used to differentiate them.

Great thread....thanks for the hook up......

I can't seem to see any difference inside wise from a 64-66....other then the vin location. Most of the differences seem to be on the emblems location outside and most hotrod versions loose the emblems which make it even more difficult to tell.

I was working on the door panels today and found out the arm rest location is different on the 64 and 66 cabs I have.

Maybe someone added the armrests afterwards and didn't put them exactly in the same place? From what i have read today on the board i don't think the cab shell's are differnt and if they are i can't tell them apart. The vin number on a 64 is on the side of the door jamb instead of at the top of the jamb like a 65 or 66 but other then that........they are the same i think. I think the boxes are the same as well.....with the exception of the back up lights that became maditory in 66......

But intresting side note in fleetside boxes....the wheel opening on a 64-66 long box is 3 " bigger then a 64-66 short box is.....

I am talking about the square holes in the doors. It is where the threaded square plastic nuts push into the doors for the armrests.

The '66 doors have both sets of holes (4 total) to use for 2 different locations. They have the set for the '64 and the '66.

The '64 doors only have 1 set and they are further to the rear of the door by 2 3/8" from the template I used.

I was provided a template that has been floating around (link below). The template was only good for the farthest forward set of holes on the '66 doors.

on all of the 1964 trucks i have looked at they have a extra stiffener located on the brace that runs from the firewall to rear cab support.this panel welds to the firewall and is spot welded under the cab floor.if you look into the front fender well behind the tire it is next to where the inner fender bolts to the cab.it is a small difference.the vin plate on the 1964 trucks was spot welded to the cab.1965-66 was rivetted to the cab.there is some differences on the rubber door bumper hole diameters on the cabs also in the b pillar panel.i know you were talking about sheetmetal difference's,but also they were all painted inside a little different each year even though they were all painted the fawn(gold) color.1964 trucks had white steering wheels and columns.1965 trucks were painted all fawn inside including the steering wheel and column,and 1966 trucks were all fawn inside except the dash which was a darker metallic brown.custom cab seat patterns were a little different through the years also.custom cab door panels were tutoned differently also from 64-66.also the rear cab supports varied from truck to truck.some cab supports had a quarter sized hole in the bottom probably a drain hole,some were solid with no drain hole.also the floor pan over the rear cab support sometimes had a drain hole with a rubber plug in it,some were solid with no drain or plug.a very very few 1966 cabs had the rubber plug in the inner rear cab panel which was to mount shoulder harness seat belts into.some trucks had fawn color armrests,sun visors and dash bezels.some trucks had black armrests,sun visors,and dash bezels.this is about all i can think of right off the top of my head.hope this helps

as far as I know all 66 cabs have welded in threaded inserts in the floor for seat belts.

64 and 5 do not.

you could get backup lights as an option 60-65 , so some of those beds will have the hole too. all 66's have them.

also 66 has 1 extra engine listed on the kick panel data plate, the 250 6, new for that year.
