Re: My Detroit Diesel powered 61 K20 project!!

i was working at LRC then. it was fun to get a variety of stuff to work on though. besides the locomotive shop, we worked on every thing from 70 yard dragline buckets to windmill generators.

Re: My Detroit Diesel powered 61 K20 project!!

Have any of you 4-53 guys ever had a problem with the internal fuel lines leaking and causing lube oil dilution? When I was in the Coast Guard, one of our lattice cranes ran a 4-53 and we could not stop those damn lines from leaking. I am sure they were worn out; after 40 years of half-ass mechanics doing tune ups and cross-threading lines.
The beautiful thing about these detroits is, if you know them well enough, you can tell by listening which one is a 53, 72 or 92 series. I always thought the 53's clattered the most, but I do love their sound .
