The OP didn't ask for correct pronunciation, he asked how each person here pronounces it.

Your OPINION is noted.

Re: How do you pronounce 'orche'?

With all the confusion going on here, I am going to start calling it what I did before I found this site 8 years ago. MUSTARD. and just for the heck of it, I am going to start calling a short fleet bed a SHORT WIDE BED, like I have been doing for the previous 20 years brfore this site.

Re: How do you pronounce 'orche'?

Thanks guys for pointing out what the OP asked (and I already realized that). The point I was making is,now that anyone who pronounced it wrong before reading this thread, now knows the correct way and don't have any reason to pronounce it wrong.

Re: How do you pronounce 'orche'?

there is no way to say which is the correct way- it depends on where you are, or are you wearing depends. i say that if whom ever your talking to understands what your talking about then you pronounced it correct.
fyi --in the west coast navy in the early '70s it was pronounced oak-rah, and they served it often enough that even if you didn't know about it (me) you quickly lernt how to say it. i submit that oaker is the way that SOME (not all) people pronounce it and that they have a habit of putting an R at the end of words that don't have an R at the end. my wifes name is linda and it is fairly common to here people pronounce it linder.

I never knew until this thread. If some told me they had a orche colored truck i would have said Gee thats too bad. It was a fun thread however. At least for me. I went to west virginia a long time ago and asked for a Reese Cup. She looked at me and said " do you mean a REE C cup???" I said yes.

I did a three month stint in Phoenix about 10 years ago. A few weeks into it my brother and his wife were flying in to Vegas. They suggested I drive up over the weekend to party er I mean visit with them.

So I go to a gas station and ask for a map of Nevada.
A nice older lady says - A map of WHAT?
Nevada. The next state over.
Oh you mean Na-VAH-da.
OK. Na-VAH-da.
Nope. Don't have one.

I see a station across the street. All you Phonecians know what driving is like there so rather than a 15 minute drive I took a 5 minute walk across the street.

You have a map of Nevada?
You mean Na-VAH-da?
Yes. Na-VAH-da.
Yup.

The only other place I hear folks say Na-VAH-da is the high-brow east coast national news folks.

Re: How do you pronounce 'orche'?

fueled by orche (sic), we seem to have.,,...,ochre okra orca .,,..,hmm,.., The orca ate the ochre okra ?

...later in the day as i ponder this wonderful thread..how about

" The ochre orca ate okra. " ?

or...if this sickly looking whale went to a Southern eatery possibly " The ochre orca ordered okra ".
( try saying THAT three times fast )

[(please no booing or hissing)]

I see the funniest look in the eyes of those who ask about the color of my truck, and I say ochre. Especially if the truck is not there.

It saves a lot of time to say 'mustard'

Mustard and ochre don't even taste the same...I mean okra. (or oak-ree in parts of the South)

Re: How do you pronounce 'orche'?

Can you refer to a truck with a wood bed an "oaker" ?
And if so, & it were also that nice mustard color, as an " ochre oaker " ???

(my apologies once again)

Before somebody posted the definition I would have told you Ochre (Oak-er) is red! I've lived on both coasts and now in the middle of these United States and never heard it pronounced...ever. I only ever read the word in books haha!

Late to the party as usual. Oak-er or Oh-ker work for me. I find that one or two swift kicks to the shins usually cures someone of calling it okra or any of the other incorrect pronunciations. I affectionately call the color "Squash baby poop yellow"..btw, Shrek was an Ogre and green like okra and doesn't look anything at all like 71-72 GM OCHRE.
