Re: Jimbo's 67 Long bed step side build

Pic 1 Because of console and interior design, must modify outlets for heat & air.

Pic 2 Closed off the bottom and will add two outlets on the side, using ABS cement.

Pic 3 Unit in place, still not right, will need to change again, in way of panel fitment.

Re: Jimbo's 67 Long bed step side build

Finished up most of the wiring, etc. on engine. Three days later after installing water hoses, and checking fluids, we fired the engine. Had a little fuel problem, changed fuel pumps, it started right up and engine sounds great.

Re: Jimbo's 67 Long bed step side build

Just starting to coat the bed wood. Ends up with 4 coats on both top and bottoms of boards, used a clear urethane coating.

I'm interested for sure. The use of the Ultraleather looks pretty simple and really makes for a plush cab environment.

The fact that you are doing a lwb step is unusual, too, based on what I've seen in the build threads here. I like that.

Carry on, sir.

Re: Jimbo's 67 Long bed step side build

At this point in the build I started working on the interior. Don't have a ton of pics, but I will try to give as much detail as I can. I don't do interiors for a living, I've learned a few things watching other people, reading articles, looking at tapes & dvd's, etc. Hope you enjoy.

Starting out making up the floor panels. Floor will also be covered in Ultraleather and not carpet. (My floors are done this way in my 50 AD). This is drivers side under seat panel. I use 1/8" lauan panels, than I buy from local lumber yard. Pieces have been cut, and I have fiberglassed them together for the shape I need. Most panels are two layers of 1/8" which give a total thickness of 1/4".

Re: Jimbo's 67 Long bed step side build

Here I've jumped to the pass. side so you can see a completed panel and how it turned out. Seat will be placed on top of this panel and bolted thru floor where the two bolts are now.

Re: Jimbo's 67 Long bed step side build

I'm now working on center part on pass. side, lauan has been cut for shape. Narrow strips were cut and laid to form a bend to match floor. Then I put fiberglass mat to hold shape. This panel has a small lip that goes under the side console panel to hold it down, plus the chrome strips at door (later you will see what I mean in pic). This will also have a second layer on this.

Re: Jimbo's 67 Long bed step side build

You can see the center section has had filler added and sanded to smooth out (this is the second layer of lauan). Here the upper piece for pass. side has had pieces cut to shape of floor. This will now have fiberglass installed to hold the shape. Then a second layer will be made to lay on top of this.

Re: Jimbo's 67 Long bed step side build

Here is the 2nd layer piece after fiberglass was added and now filler ready to be sanded. The design in the panel came from the design in the door panels that you will see later. (Were also shown with the door handles) The piece that was cut out will be covered in darker leather. After you are happy with how your floor panels fit, it's time to cover in leather. Either spray or brush on the glue to the wood, and also the leather, let it tack up, then lay in place and smooth out. Fold over the edges and staple on the back side.

Re: Jimbo's 67 Long bed step side build

This pic shows all pieces in place. Here you can see dark leather piece on upper panel design. The side panel for console is in place. This spare design also matches the door panels. Center design is also done in darker leather. Side panel is held in place with regular metal door panel trim clips. I get mine from the auto paint store, they are made by Au-Ve-Co. You can also see how the chrome strip at door helps hold the floor panels in place. All the panels kind of inter-lock with each other.

Re: Jimbo's 67 Long bed step side build

Drivers side all panels in place. You can also see the round duct for AC and heat at front of console. Here I'm working on the cover for the emergency brake (it's laying at bottom right in pic, will also make a new boot in new leather).
