convert to power
just wondering what all is involved in putting power stering on my 72 3/4 ton 4x4. what year stering boxes and pumps fit

I'll asume you have a small block.
If you have the alt on the drivers side like original, then the best way to do it is to pony up a little extra cash to get the stock 96-72 steering pump and mounting brackets, which did differ a little somewhere in the 69 - 72 span. (I don't think 68&older is a good idea...some one correct me if I am wrong) This may seem liek a huge PITA when later systems are all over the wrecking yard, but they are all set up for long water pumps, and you should have a short. Once you hav all that set up, you'll need a gear box which will work from 68 - 87, but the later ones (82 or so i think) went to metric fittings. Adapters or custom made lines will solve this problem. |
