Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Cool new toys there, wutnxt.
I released about a pound of 40-year-old dirt from between the passenger side rockers (some of it's still in my left eye…) Good news is, the inner needs only minor repair after cleanup. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I put on an electric fan - Only to realize it was failing. (Grinding sound inside the lil motor) I then re-installed the clutch fan and fan shroud, then I figured out that adjusting a carburetor is apparently outside the limits of my mental abilities. It smokes worse now than before... White smoke that I am sure is quite flammable and would be a good fire starter under the right conditions. The thought of flame-throwers flashed in my mind. Then, I said "Um, No, Sam, No" and then drove it out to recover my buddy's broken down Ford Ranger.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
To drive my truck at highway speed you had to be "up on the wheel" all the time as the NASCAR people say. It wanted to wander all around and rode like a buckboard. So I did some experimenting. I raised the tire pressure from 32 to 36 PSI. That partially solved the wandering problem. Then I replaced the KYB GR-2 shocks with a set of Monroe Sensi-Tracks. Wow what a difference!! Now it rides like a Cadillac and handles like a slot car racer.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Got the bed disassembled and off late yesterday. More frame prep today. This would go a lot quicker if I was 30 or 40 years younger. It takes me 5 minutes just to get up off the floor. But I love my hobbie.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I find a generous supply of cheapy interlocking sponge rubber floor pads from Costco very helpful in keeping my old busted self functioning in the garage. And stacking 2 or 3 together is very helpful in knee protection when getting up off the concrete.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Yeah, those sound great. Right now I have a couple of old carpet pieces to pad the floor of the garage and they work pretty well. I'm just already old and creaky from life in general but anything is a help. I've also got a couple of old computer chairs with rollers that I do a lot of scooting around on when I can keep the work at sit down level. It just sucks getting old. LOL....

That looks REALLY cool (and I like all the green stuff behind the truck too - it's 103+, dry and mostly brown here right now) |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Well..
My '63 GMC was pretty much stock and in good shape when I got her, but among some of the problems that it did have, the radio slot had been hacked up a little. I have a factory radio and wanted to get the dash taken care of so I could install it, so I got after it. It will be a while before I can paint the truck, so after the repairs, I threw some Rustoleum on it so I could get it back together. Overall, it turned out well.....but as usual, the 4 hour jobs pretty much take two days.

That turned out great. Most would never suspect it had been repaired.
