Re: The best AGM/deep cycle battery charger?
I've heard Schumacher makes a good deep cycle automatic charger but I don't have one personally.
Perhaps we might get some more feed back? |

Re: The best AGM/deep cycle battery charger?
The type of charger is determined by the battery size, useage and required charge and discharge rate of the battery your using.
Asking what's the best charger for a deep cylce battery is like asking what's the best gun to go hunting. 1. what are you running off the battery 2. what discharge rate are you looking at. 3. how fast do you need the re-charge to complete. 4. what percent of discharge are you going to befor eyou charge back up. 5. what voltage are you working with Prices range from $25 to $700 so you need to know your reqiurements. |

Re: The best AGM/deep cycle battery charger?
As a BMW mechanic I've used a lot of high end battery chargers. We first started using the Deutronic on '02, then we used a charger called the multicharger 750. We started using the Black and Decker BC40EWB and it worked great until the fan dies and the charger overheats. Now we use a charger that looks like a charger made out of a hobby box. For the money I'd use the Black and Decker. The others cost as much as $1000!! I feel that the fans failed because we had 6 between 22 guys and were constantly used, not good in a shop enviroment. They were so good for the money many guys bought their own and theirs are still going strong. It and its cousins can be bought at Sears for under $150.

Re: The best AGM/deep cycle battery charger?
Thanks everyone for responding.
Now, to answer the magnificient 5: 1) Right now just a fan as in a room fan. Nothing large or commercial just the type you can get at sears/wall mart etc. 2) i have no idea and i'm not sure what discharge rate means anyways. 3) It can take all night if nessesary. In other words i don't need it/them (only have one now but may need two or more) recharged really fast. 4)Let's say almost discharged or completely discharged. 5) Not sure. The fan of course is 120V and the battery is an optima yellow top D34. |

You don't really want to go lower than 60% discharge on this type of battery. There are charge memory issues with deep cycle batteries you need to take into consideration. What are you trying to do? |

Re: The best AGM/deep cycle battery charger?
I meant the fan built into the unit. Second, they dont care but speaking on the B&D...plug it in, turn it on..set it and forget it. All new smart chargers deep cycle the battery first then slowly go to a trickle then maintain the battery. Go to Sears and buy the Black and decker or any of its smart charger relatives and enjoy modern chargers! I looked today after posting and noted that everyone that were exclusive to the owner were still in very good working order in a shop enviroment.

Re: The best AGM/deep cycle battery charger?
Ok, sorry it took so long to respond but for right now the project is put on hold temporarily until further notice. The project was basically to be able to sleep in a van with some ventilation.
i would also like to amend my answers to: 2) i have no idea what this means. 5) i have no idea what this means. |
