Driveshaft with 4l60e
I am in the final stages of my swap and go to stick the drive shaft in and its about 3" to short. I had a 350 turbo before and put a 07 5.3 with the 4l60 that came on the motor. I didnt move the transmission crossmember its in the stock location. Is this something that is common with a swap or have I done something wrong. The truck is 74' 2wd btw

Re: Driveshaft with 4l60e
Depending on mount choice, andtrans, the shaft length is different for most of our swaps. I wentfrom a355 and 700r4 to 6.0 and 4l80 and had to get a longer shaft made. Almost 4" longer

Re: Driveshaft with 4l60e
I'm not sure what mounts I have but the engine is pretty far forward. I had browsed through some of the build threads and for some reason never caught anything about the driveshaft so I never thought about it. I appreciate all your input, just didn't wanna order a shaft and something else be wrong. BR3W what CIA are you using? Brand? I saw in the other thread and it looks real good.

Re: Driveshaft with 4l60e
I have the same motor and trans with the performance online motor mounts and trans crossmember kit. The original powertrain was a 350sbc/TH350.
The drive shaft was about 2" shorter. I just got a new shaft built with bigger u-joints. The previous owner had beat the crap out of the old one putting u-joints in.. Trevor Where's the pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Driveshaft with 4l60e
From mount to end of tail shaft the 700R4/4L60(E) is about 2-3 inches longer than a TH350. So your long drive shaft makes perfect sense to me.
Disclaimer: I haven't personally done this measurement, but have been told by a very trusted transmission builder. |

Re: Driveshaft with 4l60e
Thanks, it looks like it fits really well. I guess thats the route I will take. I'm gonna get black though. Just noticed I spelled CAI wrong lol. Was yours the $70 cheap one?

Re: Driveshaft with 4l60e
there are a couple "cheap ones" they list. 3 or 4 companies sell them but there are only 2 styles. This one was for a silverado and came with a nice powdercoated heat shield, but that didn't fit with the battery in place. I will attempt to re use it when I relocated the battery. I think mine was about $70-85 with shipping. I have it listed on the "build cost" thread in my spreadsheet.
