Rare chassis cab truck...NEED INFO!
Hi, my dad and i already have a '67 lwb c10 that we're restoring. We needed a parts truck and so today we picked up another '67 c10 that didnt have a bed which we assumed somebody had just taken it off, but after running the vin number and doing some research it turns out its a chassis cab truck that they only made 39 of in 1967. Should we restore it or just use it for parts? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Rare chassis cab truck...NEED INFO!
Do you know why they only made 39 of them?

Re: Rare chassis cab truck...NEED INFO!
I did a quick search (on the net) and somebody comment this:
"A truck built as a chassis cab has a different frame than a pickup. A pickup bed won't fit on a chassis cab frame, and neither will 5th wheel rails." And wikipedia says: "A chassis cab or cab chassis is a body style, and type of vehicle construction, often found in medium duty truck commercial vehicles. Instead of supplying the customer with a factory pre-assembled flatbed, cargo container, or other equipment - the customer is given the vehicle with just 'chassis' rails and a 'cab'. This allows the customer to assemble any desired aftermarket equipment; for instance, fire apparatus, an ambulance, or a recreational vehicle conversion package; which can be customised for the specific needs of the customer. Aftermarket equippers, including coachbuilders, often make their own packages that can be ordered for the truck." ---------------------------------------------- ... so I'm not sure, maybe that's why there isn't a bed on it already. It might be worth more money to somebody doing a special restore of some of the above mentioned vehicles. I'm sure there's someone more knowledgeable here that can help explain further.

Re: Rare chassis cab truck...NEED INFO!
Some more info on the truck: we live in iowa and this truck has always been in iowa so it was a farm truck because nobody around here would have any other purpose for a chassis cab, also do you know exactly what the auxiliary springs option did?

Re: Rare chassis cab truck...NEED INFO!
yep, small world indeed.
The auxillary springs were used for supporting heavy loads. They would only really help when the truck was loaded to its max. capacity. There's a leaf like spring that connected from the frame to the axle (I believe). When the load hit its max. capacity - the spring would help support. It did add like 500lbs more capacity to the GVW Range though, for each side - so a 1 ton truck would be a 2 ton?? Not sure the specs - someone else can correct me. It sounds like a good match for that frame, if its intended use was for Ambulances, etc... You can see the auxillary spring mount in a pic in my build post. Someone took the springs off mine though, prob. rusted away. See the bar bending downward going near the tire: Maybe the truck was a left over from a dealer in town, who didn't sell it or something. Or whoever bought it - didn't convert it to whatever. Or maybe they stripped it down, took whatever was on it off the back.

Re: Rare chassis cab truck...NEED INFO!
Our owners manual had the original owner's name in it and i looked up the gentleman and he did a couple years ago but his obituary said he ran a furniture store and a funeral home/ambulance service...but my dad and i think it was probably just a furniture delivery truck or something along those lines

Re: Rare chassis cab truck...NEED INFO!
Yes, possibly just a panel truck - or could have been a flatbed - used to haul coffins/sofas around.
Not sure about the ambulance I pictured above - the cab might be a different structure? no idea If it were a flatbed, the wood probably rotted away a long time ago and someone just stripped it bare. (guess)

Re: Rare chassis cab truck...NEED INFO!
A half-ton cab and chassis truck is probably really rare, I didn't know they built the 1/2 ton that way. Rare doesn't always equal valuable. I don't think you would get anyone to pay a premium on a "rare" half-ton cab and chassis unless it was in beautiful shape. Unfortunately as that truck sits it is probably more valuable as parts.

Re: Rare chassis cab truck...NEED INFO!
If you cut it up or part it out, try to leave the chassis stock. If you were to sell it for parts, the odd and more rare parts will be what the buyer is seeking. If you have the room, tuck it away and advertise what you have, a buyer will find you eventually.

Re: Rare chassis cab truck...NEED INFO!
Depending on the wheel base the chassis may be nothing more than a LWB. Once everything is stripped off it's just another 67 LWB chassis.
