Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

anybody running 305/35/20 tires in the rear? I just bought a used set of Pirelli and I am going to try it. Granted i have my fenderwells and bed floor out so I am not worried about rubbing there. I am worried a little stretching that wide of a tire on a 10in rim. We will see. I hope they work because it should look pretty cool.

Now i just need to buy some rims.

I'm going to try to fit these on my '69 (with the narrow '69 rearend and 5-lug conversion axles) I will probably run a 1" or 1-1/4" spacer.

I am going to run Boss 338's. 18x8 with 4.5 BS on the front (4.5 BS is all they offer) and 18x9.5 with just over 5" BS (this is also all they offer).... Will I need spacers or anything special for my 72 SWB....

Question Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

The wheels will fit fine. The tires are what hits. That doesn't mean the wheel company is at fault because we pick tires bigger than what we should! My wheels had only a small issue. That was fixed in about 10 minutes. The center cap would go on but I was affaid it may pop off during the ride home so we shaved just enough off each spindale to satisfy me they wouldn't and they didn't.
The wheels fit fine. Why everyone is making this into something it isn't I don't understand. If you don't want the tires to scrub buy orignal wheels and narrow tires issue solved.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

You must have 1" rotors...not 1 1/4" like most have...they don't fit the standard rotors...

I haven't ever measured mine. What do I measure to get this?

Here is a picture of the drivers side.

The earlier versions of the these wheels WILL NOT work the 1.250" wide rotor without modifying the nose of the rotor. The center cap still wouldn't fit on some even after making the wheels fit. They do fit the light duty 1" wide rotor/spindle combination. Also the backspacing is an issue on the rear.

Wink Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

OK,
thanks.
I had to put a 1/4" spacer on the back but that was because of the tire I chose not the wheel it self. I like the wheels. In the picture you can see where the hub was grinded just enough to fit.

Don't you mean 51 pages?
Ha.

The fact is,... these wheels were designed for the 88-98 Chevy/GMC trucks.
We as consumers tried to make them fit on our 60-87 designed suspensions/trucks.

Boss Wheels was so close to hitting a "home run",... and they didn't even know it.
At least Coys Wheels added a few more backspacing choices to their wheels.
It's a shame an AMERICAN made wheel company (like AE/Boss) can't listen to the consumer.

I got a set too, 20x8.5s all around with 255/45/20. I ground the front rotor nose and used 1" spacers in the back. I may not have needed the spacers in the back, but with the narrower track width of the rear compared to the front, it looks better with the spacers anyways.

3AA = latest revision ... that still doesn't fit right, so yes, you still have to machine the HD rotors.

I wonder if that rear offset is correct?
The only available backspace on their website for 20x10's is 6.225" (5x5 bolt pattern) and 6.698" (5x120mm bolt pattern).

After further consideration, something's weird with the part number on the second. The PN for 20x10 338s in grey has always been 3387-2050-3-AA and the offset is +20mm. Maybe they've come out with a new revision?? With zero offset, that would move the wheel outward roughly 3/4" and make them fit about perfectly. If that's the case, then all they need to do is fix the hub bore issue up front and these could be near-perfect bolt-ons for our older trucks.
