Re: Mike's 66 swb dropmember build

I haven't worked on the truck in a while. Got some of the rust cut out of the floor. I have all the patch panels for it. I made a panel for above the floor pan and welded it in. This is my first attemt at welding. I didn't realize how much rust was in the cab till I tore it apart.

Amazing what was hiding under that paint, but it will be rock solid when you are all done. Keep it up.

Re: Mike's 66 swb dropmember build

Couple more questions.

What paint did you use to get the engine the same color as the body?

Did you have to scuff up the grade 8 hardware to get the paint to stick?

Re: Mike's 66 swb dropmember build

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I've been putting this part of the build off for a while because welding is not my thing, but I am trying to teach myself. Biohazard, the paint on the engine is the same paint I used on the frame. I've painted other engines with regular paint and it seems to hold up ok. Yes, I just scuffed up the hardware.

Re: Mike's 66 swb dropmember build

Got a little more done. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I have most of the drivers side just tacked together. Time for a break, I'm going to the Goodguys show in Joliet this coming weekend and taking my Belair.

Re: Mike's 66 swb dropmember build

man you have some really nice toys! i have yet to learn about any body work but i have a question. right there where the to sections of floor meet why is does the front look like its hangin down further? i see the seam matches across the two of them. but not the bottom. two different companies make patch panels?

Re: Mike's 66 swb dropmember build

The patch panels are from LMC. You have to do a lot of trimming on these panels . Once I get the new rocker panel on I will trim the floor panels to fit the rocker.

Well I finally got the floors done. What a pain. Now I need to weld up the holes in the firewall and clean up the bottom of the cab.

Nice job on the floor and rockers. Im almost ready to weld my rockers on also. I just ordered some por15 to try out on the bottom of my floor after the rockers are welded on.
