Got a tough starter question for the pros
Hello I am a new member so be gentle.... I am working on a 62 gmc truck I installed a 292 I6 out of a 71 chevy truck that had the granny low 4 speed . I thought a great idea to run a nv3500 5 speed manual trans I had left from a parts 90 s-10. The clutch , pilot ,and bellhousing all bolted right up. Now for the problem. I cannot find a starter to fit , The 292 has the straight accross starter pattern but the large flywheel ..... Is there a starter out there that will bolt up ? I have tried 6 different ones now and the parts store is getting pissed. PLEASE HELP... I am making a bit of a rat rod out of this truck but don't want to have to hand crank it. Thanks

Re: Got a tough starter question for the pros
I don't know if this helps, but I'm about to put a NV3500 in my 68. I was told I would have to use the flywheel off the 68 instead of the flywheel out of the '92 donor where I got the transmission because of the tooth count on it. Do you have the original flywheel off of the 292? You may have to use it instead.

Re: Got a tough starter question for the pros
I did use the flywheel off of the 292 . I think I am going to have to find a smaller flywheel that hopfully will take my clutch . DO you know if a 292 is internally balanced? thankx

Re: Got a tough starter question for the pros
all 6 cylinder inlines were internal balance .. the flywheel you need is the small one ,most 283 and 230-250 had the small one .. cant remember if the 292 has 1/2 inch bolts but it might ...
