Re: 71 shortbed
That's great. It's also kinda how I got my truck. It was my grandfathers and he gave it to me when I was 10 to fiddle with. It's been over 20 years now. The memories are the best part.

Re: 71 shortbed
finally making some progress again. the cab is over at my granddads.we are waiting for the door handles, rubber, felt strips and whatnots to get the doors all together. my granddad gutted the old doors, and brought them back here for our little scrap metal pile we have started. meanwhile, my dad and i got the rear coil springs and shocks on, and got all of the stainless brake lines in. my dad is picking up an engine crane tonight, so hopefully we can have the engine and trans in tomorrow. here's a picture i took shortly after we had the rear suspension off of the frame:
and here it is all back together: i will try to get more pictures as we make progress. hopefully we can have the cab on the frame on friday!

Re: 71 shortbed
Sorry I haven't updated in a while, I'm going to upload a bunch of pictures of the progress since I last updated. The cab was painted and bolted to a trailer, and sat in the garage for a long time.
Here is the engine and trans mounted to the chassis as of late August 2013. It is a 283 small block with power pack heads and a 327 cam. It was last used in my moms 72 and has not been run since it was swapped out; The trans is a th400. Here is a picture of the truck that was taken after we moved it from my granddad garage to an enclosed trailer. At this point all of the guts including the door glass is in the doors, one door handle is in (the other was on back order) as well as a distributor, fan, and a few other things. My dad got this tailgate while I was away ;I don't recall where he got it Here are the seats and console, I don't remember where these came from either. Earlier this month I started taking the front clip apart, it has been together since it came off of the truck in 2011. I may clean the fenders up and try to sell them as repair panels, if not, I will paint them and sell them as wall hangers. The core support and inner fenders are completely shot and the fenders are rough, but the hardware doesn't seem to be too bad.

Re: 71 shortbed
Here is a picture of my toybox, I'm still in the process of sorting everything out. Earlier today I started hanging the front sheet metal to get the core support in the right spot. The drivers side fender went on relatively well, but I couldn't get the passenger side fender on right after fighting with it for about an hour. My dad was away and my grandparents moved to Florida, so I will have to wait until my dad can take a look at it. Here it is at the end of the day, I have one bolt on either side holding the grille on and the bowtie and marker lights are just sitting there; I wanted to see how it would look. With the core support and the fenders, I also bought a 2" cowl hood, but I will probably just wait until everything is painted to put that on. I will update as I make more progress

Re: 71 shortbed
Can you please explain to me how you caption each picture? somebody tried to explain it to me once but i didn't get what they were saying, i figure there has to be something to make the words stay put between each picture like an HTML code or something. Thanks!
Your truck is looking nice too!

Re: 71 shortbed
Hopefully I will be able to keep making progress between now and next August instead of it sitting for another year, but it's hard to tell at this point

Re: 71 shortbed
Got the headboard off the wood floor bed; used up 1/2 a can of WD40 and about wore out a left hand drill bit. Also cleaned up the center console and got it mounted, cleaned up the dash cluster a little bit, but I need to take it back out and clean the lens up a little better. (need a new Speedo anyway) and I also discovered that I have the wrong seat tracks. only 1 bolt and the pitman arm holding the steering gear box in, then the power steering box can go on. Here are the pictures

Got the pitman arm free, but the steering shaft isn't wanting to play nice. Also got the radiator sitting in the core support to test fit hoses, and I should be able to make the lower hose work, but will have to try something else for the upper. Overall She's coming along pretty well though, I'm happy with the progress.
