Factory Cruise Control pictures

I just bought this 1972 Longhorn with the correct cruise control on it. There has been some interest in the past about cruise, so here's some detailed pictures. Let me know if anyone needs any more pictures and I'll get them.

A few notes:

1) Engage button mounted on column cover. Assembly manual shows just to left of column.
2) Notice oil fill tube with bend in the support leg. This is for cruise trucks only.
3) Power wire plugs into "Radio" terminal on fuse box.
4) Only one loom clip on outer firewall (holds transducer cable). I think assembly shows 2.

Re: Factory Cruise Control pictures

Josh, I wonder if the dealer just scooted the switch under the column because of the trailer brake. All of the pics of trucks equipped with the 71-72 dealer installed cruise that I have seen, have always had the switch where the assembly manual places it. Very cool, they are getting very hard to find. Take care, Trevor

Re: Factory Cruise Control pictures

Trevor - Not sure about the switch. I thought the P.O. may have moved it when he added the trailer brakes, but there are no extra holes drilled in this area.

Re: Factory Cruise Control pictures

Attempting same cruise install this weekend, perfect timing. thanks for the pictures. Would you have a copy of the assembly manual or a few more pictures. Also this unit came out a bb 2 wheel and going into a sb 4x4 any major differences. This set has another switch, and can't figure where it connects also a wire cable behind carb. THANKS randy

Re: Factory Cruise Control pictures

Big block and small block should be the same. As for the other switch, is it a 2-prong female terminal under the dash? If so, this is for a manual transmission application. There was a shut off switch on the clutch pedal, I think just like a brake light switch. Manual or auto used the same wiring harness. The auto trucks just had the other terminal taped up.

Re: Factory Cruise Control pictures

Don't mean to steal your thread but I have a factory cruise set-up from a 70 GMC and want to install in my 69 ...........do you or anyone else-happen to have a template to use to drill the correct location in the firewall for the vacuum diaphram? any info on a 69-70 set-up would also be helpful. Nice cruise set-up you have, your right they are kinda hard to find.......

You're pictures really help.... been studying them and about have in figured. Only missing wire connector to throttle, although it may be hard to find. Also went threw another style of cruise and need ball chain connector to carb. Also worried about speedo being further away to transfer case. Any ideas. Thanks in advance. randy

Re: Factory Cruise Control pictures

Jashua,

GREAT FIND!!! I thought the same thing about the switch location related to the brake controller. The dealer likely installed both of them before delivery. Great Carb bracket photo!!!

Re: Factory Cruise Control pictures

Hey! Thanks very much for posting this - I've always wondered about original cruise on these trucks, have just never, ever seen it. Most excellent, and thanks for taking the time to share, pics very helpful.
