If I may make a suggestion. If you do decide to give it a try, see if you can find a not so perfect hood to try it out on. That way if something goes wrong, or it just doesn't work out the way you want, you haven't ruined a good hood.

I agree with suzq044. The look is a little cleaner, and a bit less work. Plus, you can still use the factory latch. I really like the idea of welding the sides of the hood and fender together as one unit. It'll serve a few purposes: One, it'll make the body line look consistent all the way down the side of the truck. Two, it will solve the hassle of inner wheel wells. In stock configuration with a large diameter wheel, the tire hangs way outside the top of the fender and it's nearly impossible to make a inner fender and still have the hood open and close. I like my stuff slammed, but I do not like the look of an engine compartment with no inner fenders. It looks unfinished and makes a mess of the engine by all the water and mud slinging off of the tires.
With this hood mod on a truck with a darker color, you'll have folks scratching their heads trying to figure out what's different. Perfect!!

The side angle doesn't look quite right compared to the front angle.. Like it's a little TOO far off the side ?
I say just line it up with the a-pillar.. or close to it.

The reason I'm putting the seam there is because at the rear of the hood there is a contour I don't want to cut through and it's going to be even with the top of the bed rail. There's a hood on craigslist right now that I could probably get for $40. Maybe I'll buy it and cut it up.

I did a couple tiny refinements that I think really clean this design up....
1) stopping the seam at the cowl extension. I would weld it up solid, you can actually move the two upper fender bolts (under the cowl extension) to inside the vehicle, I did this on my 61, you can weld a nut to the fender, and then access the bolt from inside the kick panel vent.,I would put the seam between the cowl vent/grate , and the cowl extension right where the wiper transmission is. 2)I took away the seam at the hood corner, by the blinker. then I moved the hood opening up to where the factory seam is across and above the blinkers.

Jonz - I see where you are going, and it does clean it up but it looks too eurostyle - I like the last one shrunkn66 did with the cowl seem as it keeps an older look. splittin hairs here of course and i still wanna see what it looks like with the hood off |

not to be devils advocate but I think you will work a long time trying to get the shut lines that small and clean. more likely, from where you have the tape it looks like you will be staring into the gap.

Hey, Stroker... I borrowed one of your pics to ask a question. I hope you don't mind. I have been looking for these panels and had no luck (Mainly, because I don't know exactly what they are called). Not fenders, not corners - Idunno!! What are these called and where can I get both of them for my truck? Thanks.

The late 1980's Buick LeSabre had a forward opening hood (I had an 87). The hood was much bigger than the Saab. Might be a more plentiul source for the hood mechanism.

Those are a part of the fenders. They are spot welded to the rest of the fender. Those parts are not available seperately.
