Angry Doing engine swap number 3

Just venting some frustration here. Over the weekend the engine in my burb gave me the signs that it's time to be replaced. Over the last 2 months or so it was burning oil pretty bad...close to 5 quarts in 2 weeks...and it was losing power. Saturday I took my daughter fishing and when we get in to town I notice smoke is coming out from under the hood. So I pull in to a parking lot to check things out and smoke is coming out the fill port for the oil and the oil dipstick tube. The burb gets us to the lake and back ok but when we were going up hills it sure left a nice trail of smoke. I was hoping this engine would last until tax return time next year because I was wanting to buy a millitary surplus 6.5 turbo diesel. Fortunately, I have 2 other 6.2L engines to choose from, one is in my shortbed and the other is sitting in my shop. I'm hoping to use the one in my shop but I remember the PO told me he thinks it either has a cracked block or a bad freeze plug...I'll be checking that tomorrow.

On a side note my daughter and I had fun fishing we didn't catch anything big enough to eat but she did catch a couple small bass and I caught a blue gill.

Yeah that engine was showing signs of death for a while but I was hoping it would last longer. I don't know how many miles, that particular engine was a craigslist find.

Had another setback today. The engine I have in my shop does indeed have a cracked block....you can see it right above the freeze plugs on the passenger side...it's about 8 inches long. Oh well looks like my shortbed is becoming a donor truck for now...it's been parked because the trans needs to be rebuilt.

I'm still going to do a 6.5L turbo swap but now it will probably be done to my shortbed....we'll have to see when the time comes.

Another J code engine bites the dust...that's 2 that I've come across with cracked blocks. The engine I first pulled out of my burb had a cracked block too pretty much in the same area.

There is hardly any performance advantage of the 6.5L over the 6.2L so don't feel bad. They both have the same stroke but the 6.5L has a slightly larger bore. The 6.2's also seem to last longer than the 6.5's. If you want more power, install headers and a good exhaust on the 6.2 or install a Banks Turbo. Asking for more power (over 200 hp) is asking for trouble on these engines.

No the one in my shop is cracked. It came out of an 86 diesel burb and was a J code engine. I bought my burb several years ago and it also had a cracked block when I got it and it also was a J code engine.
