Cool GPS, SpeedHut update

Well I did some tinkering today to see what they will look like. These things are nice and very easy to do so far anyway.
I have to pull it all back apart to paint the ring around the Gas and speed-O to match the truck. Except for the space around the gas guage I love it. I have to find the dash wire for the lights and a 12v ignition wire and ground thats it. I'm going to use the dash for turn signals I guess, I may buy 2 LED's for them and install them in the normal place.

Here is a daytime picture.

Backside:
All the wires will be inside the cluster so far.

Night time:

Night time with high beam, had to move it over the fuel guage because of room around the speed-O. Sorry picture taking is not my strong suit!

That looks good Andy. I think the space will be fine once you get it painted.

Cool Re: GPS, SpeedHut update

Yea me to!

I ran the GPS anntena through he drivers side weep hole and put it in the middle of the dash. I stuck the cable up under the windsheild gasket so it want be so noticable. I'll get pictures tomorrow for you. I may run it to the back window and run it out the cargo light some how if I can figure how to get it through to the outside.

I looked over all the directions and it's pretty much a plug and play except for the wiring to the factory wires. I guess I need to check on which wires are which in the factory harness to tie to.
The only thing right now is the brightness of that LED high beam light. I may have to tone it down some!!!!

Maybe you could put a resistor in the wire or something. You may have to post over in the electrical forum or PM VetteVet and ask.

I thought the exact same thing before I read LockDoc's post. A resistor may be the ticket.

Looking good!! Man with that big of a gas gauge, I bet you can just watch it move like a temp gauge when you have a heavy foot. Atleast you would be able to in mine. Do they make a tach the same size as the spedo?

Thanks,
Yes they have the same size tach's. The fuel gauge was a special order though.

Now a ? for you all.

Factory cluster plug has 2 connections that state.

Fuel gauge feed wire
Fuel gauge wire.

Which one of these do I need to hook up to?
I had them program it to chevy gas gauge before they sent it out so all I need is one wire. I hope!

Cool Re: GPS, SpeedHut update

Thanks Doc, I'm drinking my last cup of coffee and headed out to start on it again. Can't wait to see it all back together again.

As you see in the picture I'm using some of the stock lights and some non so stock lights. I hope this will work out OK.
I may have to pull the stock bulbs if it lights up to much.

Question Re: GPS, SpeedHut update

The dash is back in but the gas gauge is kicking my ass! I have hooked it every way I know how to except for running new wires all the way back to the tank.

Guys I need some help with this please some body. I have tried the tan and red wire each both blow the fuse in the fuse block if I hook both the wires up to the gauge.

Notice I went to a red light for the high beam, the blue one wouldn't work after one click.

Re: GPS, SpeedHut update

I noticed that the Speed Hut GPS speedo can be order with the high beam and turn indicators internal. This could solve some issues for full custom dashes. I still haven't figure out a custom "Brake" light though. I'm always watching for good ideas.

It's a little late for me though. I should have study it better before I ordered it.

How does the SpeedHut wiring diagram say to hook it up? I think the Tan wire would be for the ground through the sending unit. Did the original fuel gauge work OK? SpeedHut has a Chat on their web site or you could e-mail them....

Question Re: GPS, SpeedHut update

Doc,
old gauge worked fine never had any problems.

SpeedHut directions:

New gauge says white wire to fuel sender out put

Black wire fuel sender ground

NOTE:
The ground is optional if your sender does not have one don't use it.

Factory wiring on back of dash has 2 wires listed on it for the gas gauge.
1 wire is Tan it say's Fuel gauge.
1 wire is Pink/RED says fuel gauge feed.
Yea I was going to call them this morning and see what they say.

Cool Re: GPS, SpeedHut update

OK,
between Putter and the SpeedHut tech I got it all working!!!

Had 2 problems with it.
1st was 2 bad connectors in the wiring harness they sent.

2nd was the gauge itself had never been programed for the truck like they said they do.
I got everything fixed and it's ready to go back in the truck.
Got the Fuel/ Air gauge working to, it was one of the bad connections.

Question Re: GPS, SpeedHut update

Don't have the warm fuzzy feeling yet on the gas tank gauge. It's showing full but it should only be about 1/2 are a little more than 1/2.

I have the white wire hooked to the tan and the black wire hooked to ground. The speed hut tech said that should be how it works but I'm not 100% sure that's right yet!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
