Muffler covered under emission warranty?

I have a rattle coming from what appears to be inside my muffler on my 04 Av. with 48k miles. I had a retired mechanic tell me this is common on our chevy's and that he had his replaced under the emmsions warranty, but he had to fight to get it. I looked up and read the fed emmsions info, but did not see anything about mufflers. Anyone here have input on this issue?

You could try but don't hold your breath. I don't believe mufflers are considered emmisions. With it bein an 04 with that low of miles I'm bettin you will get told that you aren't driving it enough and getting to much condensation build up in the exhaust system. To much moisture in the system and not getting it hot enough to burn it out will kill the mufflers.

I didn't think it would be covered, I had never heard that before either. I just thought I would check here, there are lots of things I never heard of! The info. I read was pretty specific about about all the componets that were covered and there was no mention of mufflers.

yeah the muffler is for sound control not emmisions
